Globe offers smartphone insurance with Gadget Care

Globe is now offering its own mobile protection service called Gadget Care which covers handsets and tablets availed through Globe’s postpaid plans from accidental damage or loss due to theft.

Gadget Care is an optional insurance service that you can avail when you subscribe to a postpaid plan. Its mobile protection program offers postpaid bill protect, worldwide coverage, unit replacement, and coverage for accidental damage, theft or robbery.

For new gadgets, availing the service requires you to pay a monthly premium fee with rates depending on your phone’s classification. Low-end phones are classified as Band 1, mid-range phones are Band 2, while high-end phones are classified as either Band 3 or 4. For existing gadgets, your phone is either classified as a feature phone (low-end) or a smartphone (high-end). A corresponding participation fee also needs to be paid upon replacement of the device.

Insurance sometimes pose as an added weight to a consumer’s pockets. But if happen to be a Globe subscriber and you want to lessen your worries about losing or breaking your expensive smartphone, then this can be a viable option.

For more information you can visit Globe Gadget Care’s webpage here 14.

Thanks for the enlightenment guys. I guess the question will then be how Globe classify phones. Kalokohan ito if they classify, for example, a Galaxy Y or a Cloudfone Thrill under the Smartphone bracket. While technically accurate that the 2 examples are (entry level) smartphones, having that kind of monthly+participation fee is definitely unreasonable.

i guess coconsider ko din naman ung phone ko before i would enroll it to any insurance.if the price of my handset say galaxy y is around 4k why not just purchase a new one diba. Why even bother

No wonder why Chartis Insurance (AIG) is snubbing the small players in the market, they’ve gone for the big fish (Globe).

Entry-level smartphones are already priced around the P7000-P8000 range. So if you have one of these and they get stolen/badly damaged, your “Participation Fee” itself will already cover the whole amount of the phone. Kumita pa ang Globe sa iyo since you pay a P300 monthly fee.. USELESS!

… nice scam you’ve got going there, Globe! :)

water damage included? baka naman for repair lang yan, or palitan ng refurbished. if it cost that much for the participation it should be a brand new, sealed, with box na matching serials replacement

Here’s a thought for you: No consumer electronics firm may replace their product with a brand new one unless it has been returned within 7 days or a month (depending on the manufacturer) from the date of purchase. Also, the manufacturer may reserve the right to replace the unit with either a refurbished, new, or similar counterpart when it’s returned under warranty.

If you’re thinking about costs, here’s a way to look at it: If you’re phone gets stolen (God forbid) which you spent 30k for example, it’ll only cost you 8.5k to replace that. Unless you have another 30k, cost-conscious people would rather go with the insurance.

      8.5k + (# of months under insurance)*299

Is the monthly fee throughout the duration of the contract? If it is then mahal. The rate used for the coverage is double the standard rate used in the insurance industry.
