In effort to further intensify its campaign against spam/scam text messages, Globe is currently testing out a new automated SMS filtering mechanism that blocks unwanted messages from reaching its subscribers.
In a statement, Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Service Management Division, Network Technical Group, said that the new filtering system has managed to block at least 10,000 spam and scam messages during the course of the testing phase.
He adds that the technical team manning the filtering system is looking to add more postpaid subscribers in the coming days. No mentions of prepaid subscribers though.
Once identified as a constant source of spam/scam messages, the reported number will be temporarily deactivated, disabling the data services, as well as both voice and SMS in the process. The ban will only be lifted if the user can show a proof that they are not a spammer.

Thank goodness. Tweeting to report and sending Globe screenshots of spammers’ sms via direct messages on Twitter didn’t help. Hopefully this one will! I am very excited for this project to be implemented. I have a long list of spammers that I have manually blocked on my phone.
hopefully this filtering system automatically blocks or disables the sim numbers in question. paying customers should not need to manually report spammers/scammers. i’m skeptical about this press release as time and time again globe has proved to be full of shit. hopefully they deliver this time.
