Nokia World, Abu Dhabi. Nokia announced their latest flagship smartphone here in Abu Dhabi for the 2013 Nokia World event. The Nokia Lumia 1520 is the successor to the Lumia 1020 and packs a lot of first.
The Lumia 1520 is the first in the phablet category with a 6-inch display. It’s also the first one to have a full HD 1080p resolution and the first to also have a quad-core processor running Snapdragon 800 chip.
The 6-inch smartphone comes with the latest update from Micrsoft and now supports 3 columns of Live Tiles with options for 3 different tile sizes, much like the Live Tiles on Windows 8.1 laptops.
The new UI looks more lively and refreshing too.
Instead of the thick girth like the Lumia 1020, Nokia opted for a slimmer profile like the Lumia 925 PureView resulting to a thin 8.7mm dimension.

The handset still feels light for its size even at 209 grams. The display has super sensitive touch for glove and nail usage.
The PureView camera at the back is much smaller compared to the 1020 and is closer to the Lumia 925. Nokia placed a total of 4 microphones around the device so you can record directional stereo for a more surround-sound like quality.
Just like the other Lumia devices, the design signature of Nokia is very evident in the Lumia 1520.
The Lumia 1520 will be priced at $749 before taxes and subsidies. It’s available in red, yellow, black and white.
Nokai is set to release the handset this quarter but we’re expecting a late November or early December launch in the Philippines.

Abu Dhabi, UAE? Geez, it is a waste of time! There are many beautiful Asian countries like Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. than an Arab country for a product launching of Nokia!
I remember talking to a British and Malaysian managers, he said he’d rather stay in the Philippines and visit places like Boracay and El Nido and see beautiful people and culture rather than staying in the world’s tallest structure Burj Khalifa or 5- star hotel there and stare at the desert and sea!
And he is right! It’s more fun and beautiful in the Philippines!

Wow! This spec. is what I waited for so long…. but please nokia make a phone having the same hardware as Lumia 1520. I need a phone, not a phablet. I don’t need a 41Mp camera, 20Mp is enough.

Mga di pa kasi nakakagamit ng windows phone kahit sa mga demo unit lang ng nokia hahaha. Mga mukhang apps, panay naman ang reklamo sa battery drain ng android nila na di pa nasosolusyunan hanggang ngayon hahaha.

paciensya na abu, pero mas gusto ko ang isang to kaysa note 3 mo, yung camera ng 1520,yung smoothness ng UI ng windows,yung battery life ng 1520, yung color at design ng 1520,lamang sa apps ang note 3 pero the rest 1520 talaga ako.

I was expecting Nokia Lumia 525. :( I will stick to Lumia 920. Lumia 1320 and 1520 are good but I’m not interested in owning phablets.

Opinion ko lang naman. I was wondering what’s the need for the quadcore if kaya naman and impressive na sa dualcore ang previous flagship models? If performance wise, so how about 925 and 1020? Dapat quadcore nalang din nila yun tutal contemporaries na android phones eh quadcores na?

I think that’s because, though I’m not really sure if Nokia is intending it that way,it can already be considered as a small PC… given the OS and what it can do… if it comes with a small keyboard dock with the same size as the phone itself… it could accomplish almost half oh what the “Ubuntu” phone can do… given that you have money to buy MS office and other apps..xD
actually its MS fault that Nokia has just released its first quadcore device because just this GDR3 update where quadcore was supported…
If you’re an average consumer you won’t dig deep researching about your purchase. Automatic assumption na quad core is better than dual core. Ako mas prefer ko two better cores than 4 lesser cores. With more emphasis on graphics chips. Mas tipid sa battery, Hehe pero wala pang high end android na nakakagawa ng ganyan except yung Moto X. Kung same siya sa pc, two better cores is better than 4 lesser cores pagdating sa mga editing and graphic intensive na mga task.
Topgun is correct, it is Microsoft’s fault. The Windows Phone 8 OS version for this device is the GDR3, which supports quadcore processors. In fact, Nokia had to make several workarounds for the Lumia 1020 to make it having a 41MP sensor despite only having a dual-core processor.
Actually, in an interview, Joe Belfiore, manager for Windows Phone program said that it is frustrated at Nokia hiding some necessary info regarding its great technologies. Maybe this is one of the reasons regarding the Nokia acquisition of Microsoft.
