Around 3K postpaid subscribers reach 1GB per day

After discussing the issue about the bandwidth limit and throttling of mobile internet with one of the reps of a local telco, we both agreed that the imposed monthly limit is a bit “limiting”.

My own postpaid account have been throttled several times before (read our story on What Happens After You Reach Your Data Cap).

What’s interesting that we learned from the conversation is that around 3,000 postpaid subscribers regularly exceed the 1GB daily threshold. The number might seem huge but it’s actually less than 2% of the subscriber base.

So the logic revolved around the idea that if you limit the usage of the 2% of the subscribers, you will be able to improve the experience (speed) of the other 98%. The analogy is similar to limiting the number of buses in EDSA (numbering around 2,000) and the time of the day they that can use the road so that the other 500,000 regular vehicles can travel more efficiently (i.e. faster).

Bus operators would complain that it’s unfair to them and that they should have 100% unlimited access to EDSA all the time, despite the fact that they hog the roads and take up 2 of the 3 lanes most of the time. Operators would say they pay the same road tax and income tax so they should be treated equally. The same is true with drivers affected by the number coding system.

And they have a point.

That is why we’re here discussing what to do with the daily congestion, not just of EDSA but also of our mobile internet traffic.

Is it fair (or does it make good business sense) to sacrifice the 2% to benefit the other 98%. Are telcos willing to let go of those 2% so that the 98% are better taken care of? By the way things are going, it would seem so.

Ok, Globe now has throttling. Ok, they want to start throttling after 1GB/day or 3GB/month. I will not even contest their claim that only 3% will be affected. I will give them that. In return I want to be able to change my plan from unlimited data to consumable especially since they have me under contract. Knowing this change in their policy, I want to have control on how I spend the money I pay them on regular basis month after month. Their screwing unlidata postpaid subscribers over. Forcing us to be limited with the service we get in a policy change that is one sided, benefitting only Globe.
Heck, if I buy a new prepaid sim everyday and load it with the minimum amount to have one day’s worth of supersurf, I get 24 GB total spending only 2400 pesos, maybe even less. That’s 100 pesos per gigabyte versus the 300 pesos per GB I now get under my post paid contract. I signed up for the postpaid plan under contract because it was supposed to give me better value for my money. People sign up for unlidata for one reason alone, if Globe unilaterally makes that reason moot, Globe should provide the same subscribers the option to choose where their money will be better used.
All these bloggers who insist that Globe’s FUP for customers under contract is actually “fair” are either not thinking things through or really are just paid lackies.

    • Avatar for Smokescreen Smokescreen says:

That is actually a good point. Did you actually sign an FUP contract? If not, though you can’t compel Globe to disregard their policies….you can however declare the contract voidable. Undel Laws on Contracts, once a party implements a change in policy that critically changes how a contract is implemented and at the same time is a point of contention for the other party…..then you can have it invalidated because it is voidable. Specially if such change in policy would have altered your decision in signing the contract.

Generally, there’s no problem implementing new updates as long as they inform their customers. DO NOT release any changes on the customer’s contract. Give us options how can we handle and face your new updates. The telcos must also identify the benefits for prepaid and postpaid customers.

This one is a good article. Please share it: http://bluecyan0601.tumblr.com/post/75474718249/whats-the-real-deal-on-globes-fair-usage-policy-fup

999 for 3GB sana ang plan nila, not unli. If they want unli, raise the plan to plan 8000.

Sa mga nagsasabi na bobo ang mga nagrereklamo dahil di nagbabasa ng kontrata, mas bobo kayo dahil di nyo alam na ang CONTRACT OF ADHESION tulad ng sa Globe ay strictly construed against the one outlining the terms. Hala sige Google nyo mga bobo!

So ngayon, gagawin nanaman nila primitive ang Pilipinas!!! Leche!!! At ang smart!! FYI, sila ang totoong UNLI!!! NO CAPS!!!! Ang nakakainis pa,,, is sobrang false advertising ng globe!!! Wtf with that UNLI NET?!?!? Eh POTANGINA PALA NILA eh!!! Leche!!!! Sayang ang postpaid ko pota!!!! LUGI KAYO SA GLOBE AT WAG NA KAYO KUMUWA DTO!!! SWITCH TO SMART!!! At FYI,,, napakabagal ng 2G ok??? Wala ka na magagawa sa 2G!!! PAKING SHIT!!!!!

Wahahaha. Saan na kayo ngayon?

  9. Avatar for xXx xXx says:

In fairness to globe, matagal na ang fup. Kahit smart meron din. Ang katotohanan malabo naman talaga na ma reach ang 1gb per day kung gagamitin ang mobile phone the way its data should be used. I will leave globe soon pag natapos ang contract ko but because of other reasons, hindi yung pinuputok ng butse ng mga nandito. I use data when im out lang, pag dating office sa wifi ako connected unless walang mga high speed wifis ang mga offices niyo. Lastly, siempre its all about money, business yan eh. You pay for it because of the convenience to use data outside the comfort of your homes and offices, not just the speed. Maglipatan kayo sa smart, may waiver pa na you have to signup for 1.5gb cap tapos bababa din ang speed mo.

Walang trottling. Disable din lahat ng torrent downloads. Para legit DLs lahat yung mga maiiwan.

    Ano say nyo? Hahaha.

    • Avatar for wew wew says:

Panuorin nyo muna yung video bago mag react.

    • Avatar for SunCell Subscriber SunCell Subscriber says:

    • Avatar for TRD TRD says:

      @Suncell Subscriber

bago magreply panuorin mo muna yung video.

  13. Avatar for hantor hantor says:

with regular usage, fb here and some browsing, even with data auto sync 1 GB will take you 2 weeks or even a month. one day, meaning puro downloads yan..20% sa subscribers na gumagawa nyan are affecting 80% of the network, so telcos have the right.

    • Avatar for Jay Jay says:

Samsung Video has a service where you can buy and download a whole movie like Netflix or Amazon. Imagine you bought some to watch later on your phone but frustrated to know it was only cut short because of your data cap.

You can’t watch a Blu-Ray movie with the disc and all in your HD phone, can you?

It was a good service offer since you don’t have to leech on other wifi services since you also paid for your own internet plan.

  14. Avatar for Jp Jp says:

I don’t dislike this FUP. I think it is good to have one.

The only issue that I think most people are complaining about is the fact that with Globe, after LTE or 3G, it goes down throttled to 2G.

So far, I see no false advertising on this part since data use is still unlimited, just slower.

Like what I said, I’m still happy with SMART and SUN, especially because for now, they don’t strictly impose down throttling to 2G kasi even with their reps, after LTE, it will just go down to 3G.

I use an LTE wifi and 3G phone and both haven’t failed.

Again, you get what you paid for. Yes, for postpaid users, it may sound that we should be getting the upperhand but the fact is that, mejo lugi din ang telcos sa atin especially if we stay within our plan amt ksi they invested on the phone na binigay sayo for their service, unlike for prepaid users na ineexpect lang nilang magload ng magload.

In any case, kung hindi naman talaga for work or wala kang pambayad, e d tipid tipid sa data usage.

Kung mahalaga naman sau for work, business, or may pera ka, e di magbayad ka na sa mas “consistent’ na service.

Basta for me, I’m sticking wSmart and Sun. I just use my Globe for casual text and calls.

    • Avatar for SunCell Subscriber SunCell Subscriber says:

    Hi Abe,

    Just a thought

“The number might seem huge but it’s actually less than 2% of the subscriber base.” – Why not ask Globe to get the % of users that are on a Data Plan that are exceeding 1GB?

Getting the percentage out of all subscribers does not make any sense because if you’re not on a Data Plan, you really can’t consume more than 1 GB. This is why the number looks really low.

How about you read the title? “Around 3k postpaid subscribers reach 1GB a day.”

There’s the number. Read before leaving stupid comments.
