Mediatek MT6732 is a 64-bit LTE Quad-core chip

Aside from the octa-core chip that Mediatek has recently released and found its way to several smartphones in the Philippines, the chipmaker has also announced its very first 64-bit SoC with LTE connectivity.

The Mediatek MT6732 is based on an ARM Cortex-A53 processor with Mali-T760 graphics.

Qualcomm also previously announced their 64-bit SoC (Snapdragon 410 LTE) right after Apple touted their new A7 chip as the first one to have 64-bit instruction set.

While there isn’t much use for a 64-bit chip in smartphones, the Mediatek MT6732 could be a step into that direction. The SoC is not yet for shipment until 3rd quarter of 2014 so it could take a bit longer for smartphones and tablets to have them on board.

    Next Android (4.5?) = 64bit?
If android OS doesn’t support 64bit operation AND if apps are not designed to operate in a 64bit environment, then a 64-bit processor will not be fully utilized…

Android already has 64-bit support and it just needs the hardware implementation. Read the article here: http://www.slashgear.com/android-64-bit-support-already-baked-in-just-add-hardware-17298038/
