Moto confirms it will not produce smartwatches anymore

There’ll be no new Moto smartwatches anytime soon according to the company even with the upcoming release of Android Wear 2.0 next year.

The reason behind this decision is that Moto doesn’t see enough demand in the market of smartwatches for now. Shakil Barkat, head of global product development at Moto, said that wearables do not have broad enough appeal for them to continue to build on it year after year. Also, smartwatches and other wearables for this matter will not be in Moto’s annual roadmap.

Although, the Moto 360 (2nd Gen) that was released in 2015 and was launched locally just last July is expected to receive the upcoming Android Wear 2.0 update. As for when will Moto will venture back into smartwatches is unknown, but they see such devices to be more useful in the coming future.
