MRT’s new crowd control measures: Better or Worse?

The Metro Rail Transit management has recently implemented a new crowd control scheme in the hopes of “improving” the passengers’ commute experience, as well as freeing up some space in the ever-crowded North Avenue station.

The management’s solution was to enforce a by-batch-entry system wherein 500 passengers will only be allowed to enter the station and wait to aboard a train, at any given time.

According to Al Vitangcol, the current GM of MRT, the new scheme will minimize the number of passengers who are flocking the North Avenue station to ride the train.

Kaya nagkakaipon-ipon dito,”

MRT management’s new crowd-control scheme may seem fine on paper (at least for them), but in reality it just forces the passengers to wait outside of the station, exposing them to the unforgiving heat of the sun and pollution.

So we’re left with the obvious question, is this newly implemented measure going to deliver on its promise of better commute experience or it’s just going to make matters worse? What do you guys think?

It’s sad that all of us our babbling how and what is the best thing to do. But the truth is, these words and letter don’t do a damn thing. We are still slaves by damn politicians and greedy businessmen. We middle class people do 90% of their work and get 10% of the produce and we fight over that 10% pinching every as much pennies as we can. You just do the math for the other side of the coin. Just. Sad.

One GOOD SOLUTION. Put trains with 4 loader like sa LRT. It will help a lot.

Adding trains will not resolve the issue. We need more infrastructure in parallel to the current MRT3 and LRT1. And once the proposed MRT linking North and Bulacan is done it will become worst.

    • Avatar for aze aze says:

    • Avatar for jujuju jujuju says:

GodBless you aze. :)

    example

I think the proposal is of lesser evil in nature. Its good to limit the number of people per station so as to prevent those who are surprised that upon going in,its a sardine experience after all. At least, non entry will afford them an informed option to either wait outside or take a bus.

Buses (non-AC in particular), if one is to observed is not usually filled even during rush hours. My 2 cents here – price hike so those who are sensitive about it will take the bus instead. And give incentive to early birds.

Here in SG, fare’s free if you tap out before 7:45am. So somehow it decongests the rush hour

I remember one time, pa-rush hour na nun sa may Shaw Blvd Station, 4:30PM. Almost 20 mins ako naghintay bago dumating yung train going to Taft Ave. Dun naman sa kabila, 3 na yung nakabalik.

this Al Vitangcol should resign his post!!!

    incompetent to.

kahit anong gawin nilang crowd control dyan talagang madaming tao… nalate lang lahat eh, ginulo nila yung schedule ng tao. mga boploks talga.

  13. Avatar for Paolo Paolo says:

Here in SG, kapag rush hour, 1 minute gap lang between trains. Madaming trains kapag rush hour. Any other time, it’s about a 4 minute gap between trains.

Only solutions really is to add more trains.

    Else, mag-bus ka nalang.
