Nintendo is reported to be merging its console and handheld divisions in its attempt to create a new generation of gaming products.
According to Nikkei.com, Nintendo Co. will combine the development segments for its home video game consoles and handheld game devices “in an effort to create more innovative and attractive products.”
“With more people using their smartphones and tablets for entertainment via the Internet, including games and videos, Nintendo aims to come up with next-generation game systems that will turn heads.” says the report.
If this is what Nintendo is going for then we might see a console/handheld device similar to nVidia’s Project Shield or something better.

LOL I don’t think they’re making a phone.
It’s more likely the internal merger will make 3DS and Wii U more like each other and make it easier to develop tech for them to interact with each other. Iwata has already said they plan to make MiiVerse on 3DS to be nothing short of amazing. 3DS and Wii U are also expected to interact in a huge way on the next Smash Brothers game.
Lastly, Iwata has also gone on record that they do not plan to release any new hardware this year, so we won’t even see the consequences of this action until at least 2014. Either way, exciting time for gaming.
Had a feeling that this will happen. Now let’s see what kind of Phone they will come up with.
