In an early access provided to us by OpenSignal, the latest report (February 2017) on global mobile internet speeds placed the Philippines at 3.33Mbps. This is higher than the 3.13Mbps reported by OpenSignal back in August 2016.
This represents a little over 6% improvement in average mobile internet speeds for the country. OpenSignal defines the “overall speed as the average mobile data connection a user experiences based on both the speeds and availability of a country’s 3G and 4G networks“.
South Korea remains to be at the top stop at 37.54Mbps although the speed actually dropped from 41.34Mbps back in August 2016 (-9%). Singapore also dropped from it’s #2 spot (31.19Mbps) to just #4 (30.05Mbps). Norway jumped to #2 from 23.06Mbps to 34.77Mbps, followed by Hungary which stayed at #3 (31.04Mbps, up from 26.15Mbps).
The Philippines ranked second to the last, beating only Costa Rica (2.69Mbps).
Since these measurements are both from 3G and 4G networks, the average is lower compared to the average LTE-only speed of 7.27Mbps as reported back in November 2016 (see report here).
The same report also indicated that users spend 39.15% of the time on WiFi networks rather than their mobile network.

Nag focus nga itong PLDT sa Ads to shout out Philippines is already Fiber pero lang naman karamihan pa din ay copper connection at hindi fiber s*#@. Globe and Smart proud pa kayong second to the last pa Pinas. Congrats sa profiting mechanism ninyo.

May fiber internet ka nga, di mo naman alam nangyayari sa paligid mo. Di pa 100% sakop ng fiber internet ng minamahal mong PLDC ang buong Pilipinas kahit binili na nila ng Globobo ang telco ng SMC. O___O

naka PLDTHOMEDSL ako ngayun 1.7k bill ko per month 5mbps . meron nmn ako pang bayad sa fiber pero wala sa lugar namin cge po lagyan nyo ng fiber lugar namin O_O

People don’t do speed tests that much. It eats the precious bandwidth. Capping pa more
wala epek sa kanila yan speed test na yan because their business model is maximum profit for minimum service. if anything the two telcos are probably thinking of ways to become the world’s slowest para mas malaki profit margin.
At least mas mabilis pa tayo sa Costa Rica ganyan mangatwiran ang Globe at PLDT
37.54Mbps in Korea, average? Wow! It is very far from what we have, what a wretch we are, and still a have very long way to come, we and Korea are poles by far apart.
Come on Globe, and Smart, it is already year 2017, and we are still trailing quite behind and yet more there are still a whole lot of rungs to carry off ahead, even though we pay whatever types of plan you put on the table, and despite you lock in us in to force to pay you monthly for below par data service, why are you still plodding along?

blame this misery to PLDT and GLOBE who would rather spend on multi-million if not billions on advertisements, client events, xtravagant corporate events like maintaining big PBA ball clubs, ( not just 1 but 3), buying companies left and right, pampering inutile but arrogant employees, than improving their services

kung ang kanilang expenses sa ads ay ginamit sa internet infrastructure improvements, malamang mas maganda at gaganda pa ang internet services sa PH.
