Homeward Bound…

In a short while, we’ll be leaving for the Frankfurt airport. That’ll be another 24 hours of travel ’til I get back to Manila. Will take another 48 hours to rest and recuperate. I’ve already signed up as moderator for next year’s seminar again. Might also go to Argentina (and Brazil!). Ah, I miss home.

Update: Plane delayed. Missed connecting flight by 10 minutes. Begged. Nope. Door’s closed. One passenger drunk. Door’s opened. Two policemen in. Drunk man out. Yuga in. Saved by the booze!

Samsung SGH F-500: The DivX Phone

I’ve always wondered why most mobile phones use their own video format (3gp) when there are so many other existing ones like Quicktime, MPEG, etc. It would have been easier to view from from your PC to your phone but I guess all those DRM and licensing is getting in the way. Then, there’s the Samsung Ultra Phone.

Blogger or WordPress.com?

Was having time debate with several of the participants here in my workshop on which blogging platform has better usability and functionality. Of course, I was pushing for WordPress.com because of two things — scale and upgradability. However, others are saying Blogger is better. I haven’t used Blogger in like 4 years now and yes I know that it has improved since then. What do you think?

Breaking 2,000 & 25,000

Didn’t notice this until today but this blog has actually broken 2,000 posts and 25,000 comments. That’s for 2 years and 8 months that this blog has last been relaunched. That comes down to a little over 2 posts per day and 26 comments per day. Here’s to the next thousand! *heh*

What attracts you: the Blog or the Blogger?

There’s this one observation that when a blog/blogger becomes famous, they usually grow thin on content. Gone are the quality posts and coasting becomes a daily blogging habit. Still, they continue to be famous and admired.

Now broadcasting on Twitter

TwitterOk, I said before that I don’t see myself being on Twitter. Just so many scary stories about it. Nevertheless, my seminar on new media and Web 2.0 has actually forced me to sign-up for one. So, yeah, I’m on Twitter.

What’s so funny is that when I signed a few days ago, I forgot about it and never told anyone. Today, I found people were already following me. How d’ya know that? If you want to add me or follow me, my username is easy to figure out.

Blogging from Gummersbach

Just arrived here at Gummersbach, a rural town off Cologne, Germany. That’s after more than 22 hours on air and and on the road. It’s a chilly 8 degrees outside, raining. Blogging will be sparse in the next two weeks. Left my mobile phone at home so email is the best way to contact me.

Curfews and Internet Clampdown

I know this is kinda paranoid already but several people have contacted me about erratic to no internet connection. Yes, there’s that 12 midnight to 5am police curfew imposed on the entire Mega Manila, but the internet? There’s also the detention processing of media people who were present during the siege at the Manila Peninsula Hotel. I’d like to believe that this knee-jerk reaction is nothing to be worried about. Anybody else having problems with their net connection? Couldn’t it be just net traffic congestion?

Buy a PR7 Link from Google for $5 a day?!

Mini SearchOk, all this issue about paid links, paid posts, PageRank penalties, SERPs demotion and the twisting of moral compass in advertising is giving me nose bleed. Google defines Adult Content for AdSense

While it’s fairly easy for Google AdSense bot to identify pages for blacklisted words (Stop Words), it’s much harder to figure out if the contents are all made up of images or photos. This is particularly true for questionable content such as adult or mature materials.
