Core i5, nVidia GTX285 on Asus Clear Case

Asus Philippines put up this dream team gaming rig with the new Intel Core i5 750, Asus nVidia Geforce GTX 285 and Asus Maximus III Formula.

To top it off, the gaming system came with a custom polymer Asus Clear PC Case which makes all the peripherals visible from all sides. Doesn’t look that pretty at first but wait ’til you boot it up in the dark.

Although the design is a bit interesting, the hard plastic case seemed a little brittle and prone to cracks and scratches. What’s lacking here actually is a transparent CD/DVD writer you can include in the rig.

Check out the specs:
Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.66GHz
2GB DDR3 RAM
Asus nVidia GeForce GTX285 1GB 512-bit
Asus Maximus Formula
Western Digital 640GB

Used a samsung 32″ LCD TV with screen resolution of 1366×768. The Windows Experience Index gives it a pretty nice score although I’m a little surprised the DDR3 RAM got the lowest sub-score in the bunch.

We got some 3DMark scores below:

3DMark Score: 16,907

SM2.0 Score: 6798
GT1 – Return to Proxycon 57fps
GT2 – Return to Proxycon 56fps

HDR/SM3.0 Score: 8394
HDR1 – Canyon Flight 94fps
HDR2 – Deep Freeze 74fps

CPU Score: 4170

Very, very nice rig. Though some people say that the i5 was really meant only for mainstream computers, still, pairing it with a powerful graphics card means it’s not only mainstream, it’s a powerhouse!

Oh, and btw, abe, I’ve seen this before a couple of times with my other friends’ PCs. The only bottleneck to that Windows Experience Index is the hard disk.

I’ve yet to purchase a Raptor HDD to make that Index go higher. Those HDDs are monsters in data transfer rates, I tell ya.
