Acer Aspire S5 ultrabook with Thunderbolt announced

Acer has announced ahead of CES 2012 their next-generation ultrabook, the Acer Aspire S5. This brushed-metal magnesium-alloy laptop comes in 13.3-inch display and weighs just 2.97lbs. Acer is calling it the thinnest ultrabook at 15mm at its thickest point.

Since the ultrabook will come with a Thunderbolt port, we cna safely say it will be an Ivy Bridge rig sporting either a 3rd generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor.

Acer did not elaborate on the hardware specifications but guarantees USB 3.0, SSD storage, Dolby Home Theater audio and a slew of other upgrades to the Aspire S5.

Here’s what we are looking at, based on what we’ve seen on the Aspire S3 before:

Acer Aspire S5 specs (probable):
13.3″ LCD display @ 1366×768 pixels
Intel Core i5 or Core i7 dual-core Ivy Bridge
4GB DDR3 RAM
128GB SSD
Intel HD Graphics
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
1.3MP webcam
Card reader
2 x USB 3.0 ports
Thunderbolt port
HDMI port
Windows 7 OS

I’m just hoping Acer would also bump up the resolution of the display to something in the HD range. The Aspire S5 might not be finally released until 2nd quarter of 2012 {via}.

the thuderbolt port is an interface for connecting devices with fast speed, like USB 3.0. Acer Aspire S5 is the first ultrabook to include one. interesting http://www.ultrabooksworld.com/acer-aspire-s5-ultrabook-release-date/
