The folks over at Republic of Gamers division of ASUS really know how to pimp a graphics card. Case of the statement is the recently announced RoG Poseidon; a GTX 700 series GPU equipped with hybrid cooling system that ensures that there’ll be no fallout even under immense pressure.

Although the RoG team has taken the wraps off of this awesome GPU, they remain mum about some of the crucial details such as clock speed of Poseidon. As a matter of fact, most of the talk points during the event revolved around the card’s hybrid cooling feature which they claim to decrease its overall temperature by about 31-degrees Celsius.

According to them, there are three ways that a user can use Poseidon’s cooler; air cooling only, water cooling only (which disables the fan in the process) or hybrid mode wherein both cooling features are used to disperse heat.

As of the time of writing, ASUS has not yet revealed the official pricing and availability of the RoG Poseidon. But rest assured that we’ll update you guys once we hear a word from them.

In keeping with its new found passion for infusing two products into one, ASUS unveiled the VivoMouse which is by far one of the coolest non-gaming mice we’ve seen in recent memory. And while we’re at it, we thought of sharing our experience with the peculiar looking peripheral.

As far as the design aspect is concerned, the VivoMouse fits right in to the design language that ASUS consumer PCs have. The device’s centerpiece, which is a clickable round dial, sports a brushed spin finish similar to the Zenbook.

Its body is slightly arched which makes it possible for it to be used as a conventional mouse without a sweat. However, the bottom section is carved out and is a tad slender than the top part allowing the device to be held upright as one would with a remote control. This contraption is powered by a pair of AA batteries which is tucked away from sight underneath a compartment.

The versatility that the VivoMouse’s body offers is matched by the spinner in terms of operation. Users can do a bunch of things with this hybrid pointing device as demonstrated by one of the reps at ASUS’ booth.

From what we were told, the ASUS VivoMouse will not be sold as a unit; rather it’ll be bundled with the VivoPC which has a similar concept (and form factor) as the Apple Mac Mini. So how do you find ASUS’ new pointer? Do you think it’s the future of pointing devices?

Located at the heart of ASUS ROG’s booth during the recently concluded Computex 2013 is the Taiwanese firm’s latest gaming laptop – the ASUS ROG G750 which was launched alongside the two new Maximus VI motherboards. Catch our short hands-on video after the break.

Even from a distance, we can already tell that the G750 means serious business. But even so, you’d have to get a little closer to truly appreciate the tiny details that makes this gaming rig even more awesome.

Now if you’re expecting a sleek and portable gaming laptop, you’re on the wrong place buddy as the G750 is one colossal piece of equipment. Let me give you an idea of how massive this laptop is; it tips the scale at 4 kilos (without the battery) and its sides measures 50mm at its thickest.

To the G750’s defense, however, it wasn’t fashioned to be this huge for no apparent reason. In fact, its frame needs to be spacious enough to house numerous components such as an NVidia GeForce GTX 765M, a board that can hold up a pair of 2.5” SATA HDDs and supports up to 32GB worth of RAM, a DVD drive, not to mention a pair of fans and a big ass vent on the back to ensure that things are cool on the inside.

The G750 is equipped with a 17.3-inch display (either Full HD or HD+, depending on what model you opt for) with some anti-glare coating and some models even have 3D display. For the sound, ASUS put on the SonicMaster and RoG AudioWizard technologies for outstanding in-game sound quality.

ASUS RoG G750 specs:
17.3” anti-glare LED backlit display
1920×1080 or 1600×900
Intel® Core™ i7-4700HQ
Up to 32GB, 1600MHz RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M
Storage:
2.5” SATA 750GB/1TB/1.5TB(5400rpm)
2.5” SATA 500GB/750GB (7200rpm)
2.5” SATA 750GB/1TB (7200rpm, SSH)
2.5” SATA 256GB SSD
Dual HDD support (With RAID 0)
DVD Super-Multi /Blu-ray combo/Blu-ray writer
HD Camera with array microphone
Windows 8
8-cell battery
Dimensions: 41.0cm x 31.8cm x 1.7-5.0cm
Weight: 4.5kg (with battery)

Although the ASUS RoG G750 will be offered in three variants (G750JW, G750JX and G750JH), the core components of this trio will remain pretty much the same. The one with base configuration (i7-4700HQ, GTX 765M 2GB VRAM, 1.5TB HDD, DVD drive 17.3” FHD display), the G750JW, is now available and retails for USD1400.

As some of you may already know, Computex also serves as a special place for manufacturers to showcase their upcoming hardware aimed at serious gamers. This year is no different folks, as ASUS unveils three new motherboards under the Republic of Gamers (RoG) Maximus VI family.

Spearheading the pact is the Maximus VI Formula which is described to as the “Ultimate Gaming Motherboard”. This wicked board packs a handful of nifty improvements over its predecessor, including SupremeFX audio setup, an upgraded combo card which sports upgraded mini-PCIe (M.2 connector) and an 802.11ac chip.

But what stands out the most with the Maximus VI Formula is its sick RoG Armor coupled with an equally awesome SECC (Steel, Electro-galvanized, Cold-rolled, Coil) backplate with thermal pads that not only guarantees that board will retain its form under heavy pressure, but also regulates the heat inside it.

Speaking of regulating heat, this board also comes with a hybrid thermal cooling system which ASUS coins as CrossChill. The Taiwanese firm claims that through CrossChill can significantly decrease the system temperature, while a “Pin-Finned” heatsink guarantees that heat dissipation is always in check.

Up next we have the Maximus VI Impact which is the first mini-ITX board on the RoG lineup. Although it may not have the MVI Formula’s fancy armor and cooling system, it does inherit some of its other features like the new SupremeFX audio rig and m-PCIe combo card.

The Maximus VI Impact also sports another card on the rear I/O that makes it easier for users to access the board’s controls such as debug, reset and Clear_CMOS.

We have yet to receive a word about the pricing and availability of these new RoG motherboards.

One look at the Logitech H540 USB headset and you can already tell that this baby’s built for laptop or PC use. As its name suggests, the H540 is a “plug and play” USB connection device, most likely designed primarily with communication over common calling applications like Skype, and other voice and video chat apps in mind.

When I got a hold of the H540, it easily grabbed my attention with its hip and modish look. Even though it was built for PC use, I won’t mind wearing it outside with the right device. Its rotating microphone can be hidden discreetly behind one of the ear cups, and it has a stylish, sleek design.

Hardware and Usability

The H540 has a USB connection, so whatever device you wanted to plug it on would need to have a USB port – unless of course you have some kind of adapter which unfortunately doesn’t come with the box. When we tried it on, it fits perfectly well – thanks to its sturdy but bendable headband that easily adjusts to the contours of your head. The headband is also extendable, like many other headsets that we already have in the market, so you can manually adjust the length of the headband to your comfort and fitting.

Speaking of comfort, the ear cups are conveniently built with soft, leatherette padding that’s very friendly to the ears. The headband itself is also padded for longer lasting comfort, and this just further reinforces the idea that this headset was specifically intended for long video chats that can go for hours. As mentioned earlier, the device has a flexible, rotating microphone to complete the set, which can be neatly folded up into the right ear cup where it is barely noticeable when not in use.

My favorite feature of the H540 though was the presence physical, on-ear control buttons on the right ear cup for adjusting the volume levels and for muting the mic right at your fingertips. There’s also an LED indicator on the wire that lights up when your mic is on mute, so it’s easier to tell why your chat buddy can’t hear you from the other end.

Sound Quality

Now the H540 was supposed to have laser-tuned drivers and a built-in equalizer to give you crystal-clear calls and a rich, digital stereo for movies and music. To test this, I actually had a video chat with a few friends over Skype and asked for their feedback about the audio quality. All of them said that they can hear me clearly, and I can hear them perfectly from my end as well. Every word was crisp and clear, although the strength of your connectivity would surely affect the quality of sound you’ll be receiving.

The noise cancelling capabilities of its microphone does a good job as it effectively eliminated background noises when I tried recording an audio using the H540’s mic. However, the buddies who I spoke with over chat cannot discern a noticeable difference in the quality of sound they were hearing. From here, we can probably say that the boom mic works remarkably when recording audio directly on your PC however, the quality of its sound may not be very noticeable over chat, probably because connectivity issues can get in the way.

I also used the headset when playing with games as well as listening to music and watching movies to fully gauge the quality of sound it produces, and I can say that it definitely delivers what it promises. The only trouble that I had with the H540 though was that it was a bit difficult to find the “Goldilocks Zone” of its volume and bass intensity. You go one notch up and the volume is too loud, but then when you go back one mark lower, it’s not loud enough. You may need a bit more time in tuning to find the volume level that’s “just right”.

Conclusion

In terms of usability and functionality, the Logitech H540 does its job well and it produces the quality of sound that it brags about. It appears to be specially made for communication over voice and video calls, with its padded body providing extra comfort even when used for long periods of time. You may not be able to notice the better quality of the microphone right away if you’re using it for video calls as your internet signal strength may get in the way. However, it does a remarkable job with audio recording due to the mic’s noise-cancellation feature.

Bottomline is, is it a good buy? I’d say yes if you’re the type who has video calls included in their daily routine.

The PQ321 also features a DisplayPort, dual-HDMI ports (US model), built-in 2W stereo speakers, and a 176-degree wide viewing angles on both vertical and horizontal planes. All of that in a body that is just 35mm thick – making the the PQ321 the thinnest 4K UHD monitor available today.

The ASUS PQ321 will make an appearance at the Computex 2013. No word yet on pricing but it will be available in the US in June.

Seagate’s latest WiFi-enabled storage device is the Seagate Wireless Plus. It’s a 1TB storage solution that lets you transfer and stream data directly without the need for wires or internet connection. Let’s find out what this portable hard drive is capable of by reading our full review.

The Seagate Wireless Plus looks like your average classy-looking hard drive. It’s made of durable plastic with most of its body having a soft-touch finish while the top part has a brushed-metal look. It’s 19.9mm thick so it’s not exactly as slim as most generic hard drives are it’s small enough to fit in your hands.

Located on the front on the top-left are two LED lights to indicate power status and WiFi signal. On the left side is the power button while on the right is the charging port. The bottom is devoid of any buttons or ports while the top part hosts the USB 3.0 port (accesible via adapter) which is hidden by a plastic cover.

What makes the Wireless Plus special are the features running under the hood. The Wireless Plus sports its own WiFi radio which allows you to connect a laptop, tablet, or smartphone directly without the need for an internet connection or wires. And it has its own battery making it mobile at the same time. Just press the power button and you’re ready to connect.

There are two ways you can wirelessly access data inside the Wireless Plus. One is via the Seagate Media App which is available for iOS and Android or via desktop or mobile browser by accessing the Wireless Plus’s IP address (172.25.0.1). From there you can stream music and videos, view photos, access documents, and other files you have stored.

You can also wirelessly upload files if needed but transfer speeds are not that fast compared to a wired connection which is the second way of accessing your files. In addition, it has support for AirPlay, DLNA, and multi-user streaming for up to 8 devices within a rage of up to 150ft.

As for performance, the Seagate Wireless Plus is capable of transfers speeds of up to 114MB/s at USB 3.0 and 48MB/s on USB 2.0. Below is the benchmark result using CrystalDiskMark. Tested using an MSI Slidebook S20 ultrabook runnning an Intel Core i5-3317U 1.7Ghz CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 128GB SSD.

For the battery life, Seagate promises up to 10 hours of battery life on the Wireless Plus which is also what we experienced from the device (9 to 10 hours on average).

To conclude, the Seagate Wireless Plus is a great storage solution. Perfect for those on the go and want to eliminate having to transfer and making duplicate copies of media files and documents across multiple WiFi-enabled devices. The 1TB worth of storage will suffice for those small personal collection of music and videos. It’s not as thin as other slim-type hard drives but it’s portable enough to be carried inside a small bag and has a good battery life too.

The Seagate Wireless Plus has an SRP of Php9,950 which is a bit pricey for a portable hard disk but you do get very nifty features in return. So if budget is not an issue, the Wireless Plus is a good investment.

Last week, Epson invited bloggers and members of the press for an out-of-town event to introduce their new batch of high-end projectors, the EB-4000 and EB-G6000 series.

The Fusion 4 Epson Media Adventure was held at the Calicoan Surf Camp in Guiuan Island, Samar, where, before hitting the waves, got ourselves acquainted with the said Epson projectors.

Leading the EB-4000 series is the Epson EB-4950WU which is capable of projecting images at WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolution with a maximum brightness of 4,500lm. The EB-4950WU has the follow key features:

Faroudja DCDi Cinema chip – The projectors feature the DCDi (directional correlation de-interlacing) cinema chip from renowned video processing experts Faroudja Labs. The specialized processor enhances color management while reducing 3D noise, resulting in sharp, crisp, detailed images. In addition, the Response Time Correction (RTC) technology is included to produce seamless motion in videos.

High Contrast with Auto Iris – The projector’s ultra-high-precision Auto Iris control system delivers a high 5,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio by monitoring the intrinsic brightness level of each scene and automatically adjusting contrast to optimal levels instantly.

DICOM mode for clear medical images – DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is a global standard for the handling, storing, printing, and displaying of information in medical imaging. The projectors feature a DICOM compliant mode that produces images with clear shadows, and which is ideal for projecting X-rays and other medical images.

Epson iProjection – With the iProjection application for both iOS and Android, the Epson EB-4000 series projectors can wirelessly project content from a smart device with ease. It also lets you use other touch-screen operations, such as flicking to turn pages and pinching to zoom in or out.

Lens shift – Lens shift allows the Epson EB-4000 projectors to be conveniently placed off centre and have the projection adjusted vertically and horizontally.

Point Correction – Point correction allows users to quickly and conveniently correct single-projector distortion or multiple-projector misalignment on the screen by fine-tuning the images, adjusting them point by point.

Next is the Epson EB-G6900WU. Like the EB-4950WU, it can project images at WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolution but with a maximum brightness of 6,000lm. The EB-G6900WU has the following key features:

HDBaseT connectivity – HDBaseT is the next generation interface for the long-distance transmission of uncompressed high-definition video, audio, and data.

Faroudja DCDi Cinema chip

High Contrast with Auto Iris and C2FINE – The projector’s ultra-high-precision Auto Iris control system delivers a high 5,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio by monitoring the intrinsic brightness level of each scene and automatically adjusting contrast to optimal levels instantly. Image contrast and quality is further enhanced by the projectors’ use of Epson’s C2FINE inorganic LCD panels that use vertical alignment technology.

Frame Interpolation – Frame interpolation technology inserts new frames between original frames. As a result, blurring effects are suppressed and motion pictures look much smoother and sharper.

DICOM mode for clear medical images

Edge blending – All the new G6000 series models feature an “Edge Blending” capability that can intelligently blend the colours of overlapped images (both top or bottom) from multi-screen projections to achieve a seamless panoramic display.

Curved & corner wall projection (EB-G6800 & EB-G6900WU) – The two top-of-the-line models in the G6000 series have additional curved and corner wall projection capabilities that enable them to project distortion free images on surfaces that are concave, convex, 90 degree adjacent or even spherical. This allows them to be applied in creative and exciting ways for unique visual experiences.

Pricing is yet to be announced for the EB-4000 and EB-G6000 series but it will arrive in the SEA region in June.

The MSI Slidebook S20 is a Windows 8-powered convertible ultrabook that has the capability to transform into a tablet using a sliding mechanism. It was first announced in January during CES 2013 and is MSI’s flagship Windows 8 ultrabook. Let’s take the Slidebook S20 for a quick spin by reading our first impressions below.

Unlike most clam shell-type Windows 8 hybrid ultrabooks, the Slidebook is initially a tablet when you take it out of the box and features a 11.6-inch 1080p IPS display with a 10-point multi-touch screen. The body is made of durable plastic with two different finish – the top part having a glossy finish while the bottom is metallic. It is 20mm thick and weighs 1.16kg which is relatively light for a notebook but really hefty for a tablet.

As the name suggests, you will need to slide the top part of the device to reveal the keyboard. The Slidebook doesn’t use a stand or any locking parts to prop the display up, instead it uses a tight hinge that keeps the display in place. All you have to do is tilt the display to a preferred angle and you now have a fully working ultrabook.

The experience however is different from a full-size notebook as the Slidebook’s keyboard doesn’t have a trackpad. There’s no palm-rest as well so typing on it feels a bit cramped even if the keys are well-spaced. On the bright side, the design makes the Slidebook look very portable and doesn’t take a lot of desk space.

MSI Slidebook S20 specs:
1.7GHz Intel Core i5-3317U CPU
11.6 Full HD (1920×1080) LED backlight, IPS LCD Display
Intel HD Graphics 4000
720p webcam
4GB of RAM
128GB SSD
SD/MMC card reader
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth v4.0
mini HDMI
USB 3.0 (x2)
mic/headphone-out
3 Cell battery
302.6 x 196.1 x 19.8mm
1.16kg
Windows 8
Php49,995 SRP

So far the MSI Slidebook S20 left us with good impressions in terms of looks and specs. There are still lots to cover so check back on us in a week or two for a full review.
