While using the MS Surface Pro for about a week now, we found we will need an external DVD drive to install additional software into the tablet. Fortunately, Asus sent us one of their newer external DVD Writer.
It’s been a while since we needed a DVD drive but it’s nice to have one just in case there is a need for it.
The Asus Zen Drive is a nice-looking device, has a similar design and pattern as with the lid of the Zenbook (that circular, laser-engraved pattern) although the one on the Zen Drive is only made up of polycarboate material.
The device comes with a stand so the drive can be place in a free-standing position and save some desk space.
The disc tray opens from the side so you get easy access when using the burner. The drive no longer needs an external power source since the USB connector also acts as the power charger. The drive runs fairly silent on normal operation with non of that whizzing sound.
The drive has a maximum speed of 8x for DVD read, 6x for CD Writing and 24x for standard CD read. It’s typically plug-and-play on any Windows PC or laptop.
The device will be available in the market soon but we don’t have any idea on the retail price yet (we hope it will be under Php3k though).
