Intel announces new mSATA 525 Series SSD

Intel recently announced their new mSATA 525 Series Solid State Drive. Catch the full rundown of its features after break.

Let’s talk about size first. This mSATA SSD’s body (3.7mm x 50.8mm x 29.85mm) is only an eight of the 2.5mm hard drive. Because of its small form factor, the Intel 525 SSD could fit in to any machine, making it a viable storage solution even for Ultrabooks and Tablet PCs.

But don’t let its puny size fool you, as this bad boy can deliver quite a performance. Read performance is said to reach up to 50,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) and 550Mbps sequential read performance. Write performance, on the other hand, can reach up to 80K IOPS with 520Mbps sequential writes.

Such performance in a small frame is achieved through Intel’s 25-nanometer, multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory and enhancing it with their custom SandForce firmware. In addition to its arsenal, the Intel mSATA 525 Series SSD is also equipped with 128-bit AES Encryption for added data protection.
