The Phenom II 940 X4 is AMD’s latest and supposedly fastest quad core CPU yet. Checked out our CPU test results and see how it fares in our benchmarks.

Our test PC for this review is as follows:

AMD Phenom II 940 X4 @ 3.0 GHz
Kingston 2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
MSI K9A2VM-F V2
Asus ENGTX275
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit

PC Vantage Results
PCMarkSuite: 4334 PCMarks
Gaming Suite: 4666
Productivity Suite: 4150

SiSoft Sandra
Dhrystone ALU: 40.668GIPS
Whestone iSSE3: 39.277 GFLOPS

Windows Experience Index: 5.9

Since the Phenom II 940 is a black edition, the CPU is unlocked and can be easily overclocked. I didn’t have the essential materials so I wasn’t able to do this.

The AMD Phenom II X4 940 has a suggested retail price of Php12,200 at PC Bodega. That’s around 40% to 45% cheaper than a similar counterpart (Q9950 @.283GHz) with Intel.
