Had lunch with reps for Western Digital Philippines today and they gave me this laptop HDD to check out and was surprised to see that it’s the new 1TB 2.5″ Scorpion Blue (the largest capacity available).

This 9.5mm 1TB Western Digital Scorpio Blue (5400rpm, 8MB buffer cache) was announced just last July. This one uses the standard drive height so it’s more laptop-oriented. Early benchmark results from Hot Hardware showed pretty good results.

When I asked for details, they could not give me any specifics (especially the retail price) but promised it should be out in stores by next week (we’ll just update this post once I get the SRP). In the US, it’s around $140, so it should be around Php6,000 when it hits the stores.
If you fancy bigger storage for your desktop PC at home, WD also has a 6TB external storage worth Php20k here.
Disclosure: WD reps gave me this 1TB HDD for free.

Smack that to a i5 2nd Gen Notebook with good graphics card then its like having a good notebook already
This is a nice HD considering the price.
5400 rpm disk are soooooooooooooo slow
Well if you want to drain your laptop battery quicker go for higher rpm
Wow, this is great and the price is not restrictive. . Hmmm. . I can’t wait for it to be out in the market.
Wow 1TB! I think if it costs P6k, i think its cost is justifiable with its worth

Not sure how Samsung Spinpoint M8 competes with WD in terms of performance, but in terms of pricing, I could get the Samsung 1TB for just Php4,200. That’s Php1,800 savings.

Holy crap. Affordable enough to slap two into my primary and I won’t even *need* external storage anymore.
