Acer Aspire S3 is a 13mm thin Ultrabook

Acer has finally introduced its Macbook Air counterpart with the Acer Aspire S3 ultrabook — a 1.3cm super-thin laptop.

Exact details of the specifications vary but it’s definitely going to be in the 13.3″ form factor.

There will be choices for Intel Sandy Bridge processors from Core i3 to Core i7 as well as storage options between a 240GB SSD or a 320GB/500GB HDD that’s coupled with a low-capacity SSD for faster boot times.

The Aspire S3 will weigh under 1.4kg or less than 3lbs (the equivalent Macbook Air is still lighter) and Acer promises up to 7 hours of battery life.

While running Windows 7, Acer has achieved some really fast access times — 1.5 seconds from Sleep, 6 seconds from Hibernate, 2.5 seconds to connect to WiFi, and an idle time (Deep Sleep) of close to 50 days.

Price starts at €799 (Php48k) up to €1199 (Php72k) when it starts shipping this September and should be available in the Philippines by October.

In related news, Lenovo also announced their own ultrabook — the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s.

  6. Now the 13 inch ultrabook market is starting to feel a bit crowded. When will there be a 15 inch ultrabook? I’m sure that there’s enough people out there that would buy those over smaller models.

  7. ah, a nice consideration for my notebook replacement. I think it will feel good to bring anywhere.
