Three to five years ago, the trend was this — the smaller the laptop, the more expensive they’ve become. The Lifebooks of Fujitsu and the Libretto’s of Toshiba were at the top of the heap. Portability was a premium then, until Asus came into the scene.
This month, several leaked pictures and video of an upcoming Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Mini has been going around. The price — a nice starting point of $475 {via}.
So now we know that it’s not that expensive to shrink the laptop to a more comfortable size. All along Fujitsu and Toshiba are giving us the impression that it’s expensive to miniaturize hardware. While generally it’s true, it’s still not impossible to do it affordably as long as you have enough people buying it.
No details on specs for the Fujitsu Amilo Mini is available but it’s confirmed to be in the 8.9-inch form factor and will run Windows XP/Vista.

Indeed, Fujitsu used to be selling these kinds of laptops for P120k and above. They’ll definitely lose the battle against the likes of the Eee PC.

It’s good to see laptops going down in price. Well, I’ve converted to Mac, so they haven’t gone down that much for me.
