Asus Transformer Prime becomes official, starts at $499

Asus has finally announced their 2nd-generation tablet, the Asus Transformer Prime. It’s thinner, lighter and 5 times faster than the old one — boasting the first quad-core processor in a tablet.

Asus Transformer Prime specs:
10.1″ Super IPS+ display @ 1280×800 pixels
Gorilla Glass
NVidia Tegra 3 1.4GHz quad-core processor
32GB and 64GB internal storage
1GB DDR2 RAM
1.2MP front-facing camera
8MP autofocus camera with LED flash
3.5mm mic & headphone combo jack
micro HDMI port
micro SD card slot
USB 2.0 port (dock)
SD Card slot (dock)
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 2.1 w/ EDR
Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb

Asus promises an Android Ice Cream Sandwich update over-the-air once it become available (which is most probably coming next year).

The tablet weighs 1.18 pounds, including the dock. While the original Asus Transformer was in the 0.5-inch thick, the Transformer Prime shaved it down to 0.33″. Battery life was also improved to 12 hours for the tablet alone and 18 hours when attached to the dock.

As for pricing, the 32GB model will retail for $499 in the US and $599 for the 64GB. I expect the same Php22k price point (just like the old Transformer) for the 32GB when it hits the Philippines.

I saw the transformer prime featured in future perfect of ANC hosted by tony velasquez and I am truly amazed by this tablet. I am holding off my plan of buying galaxy tab p7500 with this gadget. The guest ASUS spokesperson told that it will be available next month February 2012 with an SRP of 33k php

ph.asus.com says it comes with Android 4.0 (ICS), not honeycomb. Did they change it back to Android 3.2 (HC)?
