Asus UL20 UnLimited Series

Asus just announced a number of CULV notebooks with varying sizes from 12.1 to 15.6 inches — all thin and light, and promises up to 12 hours of battery life. The 12.1″ Asus UL20 got some pretty nice specs.

This is not a netbook series so we can’t expect it to be as affordable yet it’s got a number of nice netbook-like features.

Asus UL20
12.1″ display @ 1366 x 768 pixel resolution
Intel SU2300 Celeron 1.2GHz or Core 2 Duo SU35000 1.3GHz or Core Solo SU7300 1.4GHz
Mobile Intel GS45 Chipset with GMA 4500MHD graphics
up to 4GB DDR2 800MHz
160GB, 250GB and 320GB HDD
0.3MP webcam
3-cell and 6-cell battery
Windows Vista / Windows 7

Weighs 1.5kg or about 3.3lbs and just under 1-inch thin (25.1mm or 0.98 inches). Some of the models have both a discrete and integrated graphics so switching between the two could save battery. The Power4Gear feature allows for turning off some hardware devices to conserve power. There’s no optical drive included and I’m not particularly convinced with the 12-hour battery life Asus is claiming.

The new thin and light’s really appeal to me.. Kaya lang what I’m not sure as of now is the performance of the CULV’s. Ok kaya? have you done a review of a machine that carries the processor?

the lack of optical drive isn’t a factor. Last I’ve heard, the 13 inch Acer timeline sells with the optional external optical drive. Hindi naman parati ginagamit yung optical drive.

It’s a Celeron with no optical drive? It would be hard to get this unit sold considering the other alternatives from other brands.
