Last night, we got to play around with some of the Haswell-powered Windows 8 touchscreen ultrabooks during the local launch of Intel’s 4th generation Core processors. One of those machines is the 15.6-inch ASUS VivoBook S551.
The VivoBook S551 was globally announced last month and sits above the VivoBook S400. Although it has a relatively large footprint thanks to the 15.6-inch touchscreen display, it still managed to look sleek and slim at 21mm and weighs 2.4kg. The body is made of aluminum with hairline finish while the overall look itself is reminiscent of the ZenBook.
Aside from the large Glare Type LCD HD (1366 x 768) touch panel, it also has a full set of ports like USB 2.0 (2x), USB 3.0, HDMI out, SD Card reader and a DVD combo drive.
Running under the S551’s hood is an Intel Core i7-4500U processor clocked 1.8Ghz, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD 4400, NVIDIA GeForce GT740M GPU, and a 500GB HDD. Below is the result of the S551’s WEI. Do note that the S551 isn’t utilizing the NVIDIA GPU at this assessment.
As of the moment we still don’t have info on pricing and availability. ASUS may also offer different configurations of the S551 when it’s made available locally. ASUS PH will surely hold a launch event for the VivoBook S551 so stay tuned for that.
Update: We just got word that the ASUS VivoBook S551will be priced under Php50k when it hit the local shelves.
That’s a pretty low wei processor score for an i7.. 3.8? There’s gotta be something wrong there somewhere.. The graphics wei is pretty low as well seeing as ivy bridge graphics are at least in the 4 range.. Haswell even without iris was supposed to have faster HD graphics..
Baka naka Power Saver Mode.

@marc
You should stop believing the WEI scores because they’re not really reliable. WEI is now removed from Windows 8.1 because many people have noted how unreliable the scores it produces, me included.
You may want to read more about how WEI is unreliable and why was it removed from Windows 8.1 here:
http://www.geek.com/microsoft/has-microsoft-killed-the-windows-experience-index-in-windows-8-1-1561308/
And another note: it’s even possible to manipulate WEI scores if you know how to read XML files.
Only a fool would rely solely on WEI.
@yuga
Sir, I’d just like to inform you that Windows will always switch to “High Performance” mode whenever it needs to get WEI scores of a Computer.
Try running a WEI test on your computer and you’ll definitely notice it’ll switch into High Performance mode by looking at the Power icon in the taskbar tray.
@Matthew Ames
Well I never said I believed in WEI scores. but whatever test you do, it at least gives you a point of comparison, accurate or not, it’s at least going to be relative to other units which ran the same tests (assuming of course no rigging was done). And since this site did not present any other test for comparison, its all we have to work with here. And that is still a low score.
This or the HP Envy Touchsmart 15 J003TX? :D
well the HP Envy touchsmart is already available.Plus the srp is not bad for a 1Tb hardrive. srp: 54,990
The Intel HD 4400 isn’t the Intel Iris. Only the 5100 and 5200 have the Iris name. That also explains the fairly low desktop graphics performance rating.
Corrected. Thanks for the clarification.
So excited with this.. When.kaya probable launching sa pinas? Hai.. Hope it would be around 40k plus.only..or lesser :)
