Dell outs Inspiron w/ Designs from Threadless

Listen to article

This is probably the first laptop launch I attended where the stars are just the lids and not the laptops themselves. Dell Philippines launched a new series of Inspiron, Vostro and XPS laptops that come with the latest Intel Sandy Bridge processors yesterday.

What greeted us when we arrived at the venue were dozens of these really nice-looking laptop lids.

There were a total of 25 different designs taken from a collection in Threadless and OPI. The lids are sold separately (between Php1,500 to Php2,500 each) from the Dell Inspiron 14R and 15R that came with the basic black lid cover.

Dell’s Inspiron R series comes with a variety of configurations starting with a 2nd generation Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. Startiing price for the Inpiron 14R is Php31k and it’s 32k for the 15R.

So I was actually eager to see the Dell XPS 15z that time but learned that the units could not make it as they were being held up at the Bureau of Customs. Once they do come out though, expect to shell at least Php71,500 for these units.

Can’t we just “G-mask” or “Sealcraft” our lids for a personal touch (you can even have your image of choice printed), and protection at the same time?

i guess some people are really too busy to read the whole article. the price for the “lid-compatible” 14r is 31k and the 15r is 32k. so i guess it’s not that expensive..

On the second picture, the design on the second row, leftmost is Filipino designer AJ Dimarucot’s Electric Sky design

Ganda nga ng design. Tama si Noir, kung bibili ka sa laptop an eto, dapat isama mo na rin yung customized lid, hehe. :) For me, I would still go for a clean design like the Macbook Pro, kung ganito na lang ang price.

Actually, they said at the launch na chiclet type yung keyboard. You say you work at Dell. Can you clarify this information? Confusing kasi.

Yes the new Inspiron R does come with a chiclet keyboard. Don’t confuse it with the old Inspiron R.

Let’s talk about the naming convention another day. :)

Looks really pretty and since I work at Dell, I’ll try to find out if I get a discount, hehehe.

Well if the laptops already cost THAT much then I assume people might as well buy a design that they like.
