Nohrtec first made a $300 7-inch laptop in early 2008 which it called Gecko and follows the first EeePC form factor. Their latest attempt is the Gecko EduBook that practically runs on AA batteries.
Saw one unit being sold in a PC shop in Megamall last night.
EduBook
8.9″ SWVGA display @ 1024×600 pixels
PMX-1000 Xcore86 1.0GHz
512MB DDR RAM
10/100Mbps LAN
4GB SSD (add’l room for 2.5″ HDD available)
3 USB 2.0 ports
The netbook does not have the normal Li-Ion batteries but comes with just eight (8) rechargeable Ni-MH Type AA batteries (2000mAh). I think you can use the regular AA batteries in its stead if you want to bring this to a remote island or the boondocks where there’s no electricity (just bring a whole pack of them Energizer batteries with you) or internet (no WiFi either).
Okay, if you’re curious, here’s how it looks like at the back.
Those 8 batteries can last the unit for about 4 hours. You also don’t need to worry about getting a separate charger since the netbook itself can re-charge the batteries when on AC.
Made in the spirit of the OLPC (cool, huh?). The retail price on this one is Php11,495.
may netbook pa palang ganyan? sana may solar laptop din like solar calculator.

kung may Wi-FI lang pwede na. Mura lang naman Recharchable battery sa CD-R king :D
Meron ba silang version na pwede yung Motolite battery? hehe…
To compute the charging time all you have to do is divide the battery capacity to the charging rate multipy the quotient to 1.2(120%)
sample
2500mAh/180mAH=13.889×1.2=16.667 hrs
I have an automatic charger that could quick charge batteries in 15 mins.
Only if my laptop have this.I have so many rechargable NiMh batteries at home.
In case some may have not know it but our laptop’s battery packs are made of AA batteries also.
this notebook is good for starters. parang cellphone lang ang price.
I wonder how long does it take to fully charge those batteries?
(hope it won’t take 8hours T_T)
Wish they added a 12v clamp since (1.5v * 8) = 12v
Using AA batteries is a good idea, rechargeable AA’s are readily available in your favorite malls . Getting a replacement battery is easy in case your stock become stale.
Thank God it has reached the Philippines. I have been monitoring the maker of this small device since last year!
astig!
expensive toys for kids hehehe…
well, you get what you pay for. :D AA batteries are the most common batteries kaya ok na rin.
First look at this unit e mapagkakamalan mong laruan (especially when you look at its bottom, haha :D)
nice! :D
ang kulit!
Does sugar comes? installed on this one?
The good thing about this unit is that it will cost less to replace the batteries when its life cycle has ended…
Not bad. Sana normal li-ion ang battery ang ginamit. Sir abe, sana may video review. Hehehe.
nice, buti hindi D or C size batteries like yung mga kids toys :)
