Nohrtec first made a $300 7-inch laptop in early 2008 which it called Gecko and follows the first EeePC form factor. Their latest attempt is the Gecko EduBook that practically runs on AA batteries.
Saw one unit being sold in a PC shop in Megamall last night.

The netbook does not have the normal Li-Ion batteries but comes with just eight (8) rechargeable Ni-MH Type AA batteries (2000mAh). I think you can use the regular AA batteries in its stead if you want to bring this to a remote island or the boondocks where there’s no electricity (just bring a whole pack of them Energizer batteries with you) or internet (no WiFi either).
Okay, if you’re curious, here’s how it looks like at the back.
Those 8 batteries can last the unit for about 4 hours. You also don’t need to worry about getting a separate charger since the netbook itself can re-charge the batteries when on AC.
Made in the spirit of the OLPC (cool, huh?). The retail price on this one is Php11,495.
