Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 vs. Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Now that Samsung’s premium tablet has been launched in the Philippines, I guess they’ve already completed their line-up. That’s 6 tablets in all — 5.0″ (Galaxy S WiFi), 5.3″ (Galaxy Note), 7.0″ (Galaxy Tab P6200), 7.7″ (Galaxy Tab P6800), 8.9″ (Galaxy Tab P7300) and a 10.1″ (Galaxy Tab P7500). That’s a lot of tablets just for a single brand, huh?

Of the whole set, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus seems to be the odd couple because they almost have the same features and functionality although one is obviously marketed as the premium model.

So let’s look closely and see what’s the difference between the galaxy Tab 7.7. P6800 and the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus P6200. See our comparative chart below:

Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6800 advantages over the 7.0 Plus P6200:

* thinner profile (by 2mm)
* Super AMOLED Plus display
* higher pixel density & resolution (26ppi)
* faster processor (by 0.2GHz)
* higher battery capacity (by 1100mAh)

All that bullet points mentioned above will cost you an additional Php9,000 if you opt for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 over the Tab 7.0 Plus. Not a bad trade-off if you have the extra budget.

I could not find anything on the Tab 7.0 Plus that’s better than the Tab 7.7.

However, for all intents and purposes, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus can do just the same stuff the Tab 7.7 can. Both will also have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when it comes out.

I think the Galaxy Tab 7.7 will compete more with the Samsung Galaxy Note since they are in the same price category. In fact, the Note and Tab 7.7 has a lot of things in common (Super AMOLED, Exynos 1.4GHz, screen resolution) if you set aside the form factor.

Go for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 if the budget allows it but Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is already good and the price point makes it a great buy.

    I’m glad i waited and bought the 7.7 and not the 7.0 plus which is now considered obsolete. The ir blaster will only be found on the verizon version of this product.
