This GSM-equipped SSD remotely self-destructs by sending it an SMS

Concerned about the security of your sensitive data in the event that your PC, laptop, or storage device gets stolen? If yes, then this SSD from SecureDrives might be the one you’re looking for as it can physically self-destruct just by sending it an SMS.

The SecureDrives Secure Data Storage – Remote Data Destruction (SDSRDD) is an external / internal 2.5-inch Self-Encrypting solid-state disk drive that features 256-bit AES Cipher-block chaining hardware encryption and is equipped with its own GSM module.

In the event that the SDSRDD is stolen, you can simply send it a command via SMS and it will physically destroy the NAND-Flash SIMs which prevents data recovery. The same feature applies automatically when someone tries to brute force open its anti-tamper case or when removed from the SATAII connector on your PC or laptop.

The SecureDrives SDSRDD SSD comes in 64GB and 128GB capacities and supports microUSB 3.0 and SATAII interfaces. Price is unknown but expect it to be pricier than your standard SSD considering that it is aimed at government and commercial organisations that take data security very seriously.
