This quarter could be the best time to upgrade your age-old laptop as most manufacturers already have their Intel Core i3 laptops in stores. We loo at a number of them and compare the specs and price.

We got the following models sold within the Php40k price range.

Asus K52JR
Asus K42JR
Acer Aspire 4740G
Lenovo G460
Fujitsu LifeBook LH530

Of the 5 models on our list, the Asus K52JR is the only one with 15.6″ display while all the rest are at 14″. On the other hand, only the Fujitsu laptop uses the built-in Intel GMA HD graphics while the rest uses either an nVidia GeForce 310M or ATI Radeon HD 5470. The nVidia GPU has 512MB dedicated RAM while the ATI GPU has 1GB RAM.

Based on the combination of CPU, GPU and RAM, it looks like the Asus Asus K42JR is the best in terms of price to specs. Lenovo’s G460 is a very close 2nd spot together with the Acer Aspire.

@neji, licensed are preferred, they are updatable in all aspects and either international or national you could always ask the Microsoft to send you a new copy and newer copy for only $10, so tipid parin ba o warranty and benefits of a licensed o.s.?

ang dali dali mag install ng o.s eh. i will not pay 7K for such stuff, 40minits ko lng ininstall ung hiniram kong win7 ultimate, tapos ang prblema.walang pakakaiba ung licensed o.s at ung hiniram ko. hahaha

saka n lng ako mag original o.s kung mangingibang bansa n ko. thats nmy opinion, wala nmn cgrong nagchchek ng O.s sa mga bahay bahay.sa airport lng tlga.

Kuya â€œnvidia is way cool than atiâ€™sâ€ mahirap po yata iclose yan, naka depende po siguro yan sa card na ikukumpara, halimbawa, high-end nvidia GTX 480g at low-end ati HD 3650, malamang mas mainit yung nvidia sa case na yan, hehe. Eto po medyo pareho sa performance na cards ng ati at nvidia na pang laptop na may i3, Yung Performance ng GPU may benchmark scores at frame rate ng mga games dito;

Sa temp. wala ako mahanap eh, kaya sariling sirap kaso ati HD 5145 lang meron dito,
Ave. Temp @ 90-98% GPU load (GPU-z) = 73 Degree Celsius
-nag play nalang ako ng sabay-sabay na 13 hd videos sa 13 vlc players para lng po magkaload yung GPU, kaya nya ng minimal lag.
Ave. Temp @ idle 0% GPU load (GPU-z) = 50 DegreeCelsius

Other GPU idle temp = 48 to 59 Degree Celsius

I have the acer 4740G with OS.. and demn.. great lappy for cheaper price.. nvidia is way cool than ati’s lalo na’t I use it for programmings like java, autocads and CS4.. kung sa game ok lng.. mejo mababang setting .. down side… 3hrs lang ung batt.. amf..

@ Frank: dual core = i3? ayos hehe, gamit ko ung k42jk i3, 4gb ddr3, 1gb ati5145, 500gb (kapatid ng mga k42jr na naka ati5470, hirapn hanapin ng mga k42jr ngayon eh), sa benchmarks talo nya karamihan ng core 2 duo lalo na ung mga core 2 duo sa laptops, at kung ikinukumpara ko sa desktop dito sa office na quad core 8400, 2gb ddr2, medyo mababa na graphic card, mas mabilis ung setup ng k42jk (hindi kasi patas sa ram at graphic card), at wala akong alam na dual core na mas mabilis sa karamihan ng mga core 2 duo (new higher end dual core to old low end core 2 duo baka pwede pa), hehe…

Waiting for Asus N61jv-x2 to arrive in our shores, first laptop (As to what I read) to have the Optimus technology from Nvidia but if ever it would take until the 2nd quarter before it hits our local stores, i’ll take the k52jr (Hoping for the -A1 model)

@Frank: It’s a completely new architecture… I don’t think Intel is that stupid to think that people are that stupid to buy a re-branded processor and does the same thing =)

relabeled Core 2’s? Can you explain why the socket is now 1156 and not 775? I’m pretty sure most of us are aware that the i3’s are part of a new architecture and not a rehash but please, do enlighten us.

Just visited the Lenovo store over at SM North EDSA (the computer store that I’ve visited over 356489607934 times :D), and the salesperson told me that the Lenovo G460 price right there is the credit card price; you’ll get it for less if you pay by cash. (Is that the case for the other models there too?)

Salivating over it right now because of the Full HD LED screen and Nvidia graphics. I SERIOUSLY CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE A JOB T_T

@ifat. Nvida330m would be better than the intel graphics accelarator..

@jun, lenovo g460 is already out.. but I rather get the acer or asus because of the video card included. Integrated video card lang kasi yung available as of now..

@abe, MSI CX420 is also out on the market. price tag is at 36K without the OS. The build quality though might have suffered. Holding it, felt a little plasticy and the palmrest felt the same, with a gmask like design…

i3? Hmm.. they have just renamed dual core and made it i3, put some DDR3 memory and then a new product arrives. Great way to confuse the public Intel. by the way i5 is just a new name for quad core only less features and more sockets and i7 also is a quad core only with more features.

Im using asus k52jr..
i bought it @ villman around Php38,892
w/o OS
but after testing it out..
It was a good upgrade and worth every penny i spent for now till a new model comes out with a better specs..

K52Jr is only 38k at PC Corner Gilmore – no OS but with all the spec, 500gn, 4gb ddr3, i3 etc.

Madali mag install ng OS.. asa pa sa genuine. ^_^

Wow 45K for the Asus K52JR! hahahahaha.. Laughable! of course may OS kasi. Without the OS you can get it at 38K card and cash. K42JR is at 33K without the OS. Waitng For MSI CX420! malapait na rin.. I haven’t seen the Lenovo G460 yet.. Acer is at 35K with out the OS! The core i5 Acer is at 38K!
