The White Macbook is still classic

Having used two Macbooks lent to me by Apple in recent months, I remembered the time when they changed from the simple white and black plastic body into the silver aluminum unibody. MacBooks were more expensive then, too.

Of course, that 13″ MacBook Pro with Aluminum unibody is the new look.

Apple MacBook (White)
2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR3 RAM
250GB SATA HDD
8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
Built-in 7-hour battery

One of the biggest advantage of MacBooks is their ability to last longer on a single full charge. The white MacBook promises up to 7 hours but from experience it’s just around 5 hours on regular use. However, that’s still better than most other regular laptops that offer 2 to 3 hours.

Anyway, having used the silver-tone, aluminum MacBook Pro and this new white unibody MacBook I’d say I’d go for the latter in terms of looks. Besides, this is one of the most affordable MacBook so far (Php54,990). I just wish they’d offer the black version back and make a 12-inch model.

What do you think — how would you improve the MacBook design?

I think 13in. is a pretty good size for a laptop if it will be just that. A laptop. If I were to have only one computer, I’d probably get a 17in. MacBook Pro. Relatively big screen and portability.

I second the motion for Apple to make a Black version of the polycarbonate MacBook. It would also be great if they made Black anodized aluminum MacBook Pros.

@miGS – ahh yes, a black anodized aluminum would be pretty interesting!

just like the old white macbook, the polycarbonate shell is hard to maintain. this new model’s lower half gets really dirty in a few days.

i love my aluminum macbook pro. i’m never going back to the white one.

+1 on the dirt! a black or gray MacBook non-Pro would be good.

Add some touch of artistic design. We all know simple is beautiful but adding designs especially environment-themed ones would definitely kick the Macbook into not just a corporate-ish notebook but also cater to a better range of consumers.

  6. I’d choose this if i’m getting my next laptop apple is the best when it comes to mobile hardware,

Improve the shell. Breaks/chips too easily.

    hmm.. improved?

Aside from aesthetic… there’s nothing more to improved than the specs themselves. faster processor, bigger memory and HD. Better display card.

    Lower cost!!!

I actually own one. I bought it from apple store online.

Well, this laptop is prone to scratches. and the bottom part attracts dirt.

Mahirap din kasi single lang yung audio port.

Pero, it looks more maangas than that of the macbook pros. because people will notice na Mac agad yung laptop because its white.

Masakit lang sa bulsa yung Apple Care which costs Php12K

Since the release of the unibody, the black MacBook’s been pulled out of the market. We have the white (for older daughter), black (for younger daughter) and aluminum MacBook Pro, not unibody (for hubby) in the house. The MacBook Pro and black MacBook are a couple of years old. The white is less than a year old but, in looks, it “ages” so fast. It requires a silicone keyboard plus a snap on cover to protect the casing which is soooo prone to scratches and dirt.

it would be cool for macbooks to have colored body just like the ipod nanos.

off topic: i just find it sad that many pinoy users of macbooks, iPhones and iThouches don’t really use their gadgets’ full potential. karamihan bumibili lang nito para masabi lang na meron sila at maipagmayabang sa ibang pinoy. pati yung app store hindi rin masyadong nagagamit kasi mostly naka jailbreak. really sad :(

I suggest making the Macbook: Shockproof, Waterproof
and can be inserted with a 3G sim. This will put POWER to the Macbook.

the design is perfect. I agree with you yuga, I still prefer the white macbook very classic, neat, simple and elegant.

I’ve been considering the Macbook White but I’m also looking at the VAIO X Series. The Macbook White is cheaper by about P10,000 but is heavy and big. The VAIO is about 0.7 kl and about a half inch thick or even lesser – very handy. Problem is, aside from no DVD/CD drive, the battery lasts only 3.5 hours.

Which one should I get? Any suggestions?

  17. i like the price now compare before

Come on Apple new Core i5 notebooks priced below US$1,000. Why should I pay for white macbooks wl core 2 duo only if i can buy latest core i5 notebooks from other manufacturers for almost or less price?

Hmm, my 2 month old Macbook White Unibody got its Hard-drive fried.

I dont even know why. I was just playing chess on it.

great hardware + great software. if only i could afford it. hmmm. i could only experience Macs when people ask me to solve their problems with it. why do rich (and sometimes non-techie) Windows-type people buy Mac and poor techies get stuck with windows and linux? (i’m not complaining about linux. the systems are great) i’m not saying that only techies have the right to own a mac but…. people should understand what they’re getting into before buying it.
