Triple-Core Acer Aspire AS4553 in the flesh

Listen to article

This Acer Aspire AS4553 laptop that comes with a triple-core CPU from AMD was reported here earlier and we now have the actual review unit with us.

Acer Aspire AS4553
14.1″ display @ 1366×768
AMD Phenom II X3 N830 2.1GHz
ATI Radeon HD5470 512MB
2.0GB DDR3 RAM
320GB HDD
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth, HDMI
DVD+RW

The video graphics is switchable between the more powerful ATI Radeon HD5470 and the on-board ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 .

The 6-cell battery is rated at 4400mAh. The unit only had Linpus so I had to install Windows 7 64-bit to get some more information like WEI.

Here’s how the Windows Experience Index looked like. The AMD Phenom II X3 N830 2.1GHz got a WEI sub-score of 6.2 while the whole system had an over-all rating of 5.0

Store price go as low as Php29,995 for the Linpus-installed units.

Thanks for the reply Sir! Was hoping the batt could last a little longer. I like the WEI 5.0 index. But i guess i’m getting the Acer 1810tz. =)

Sir Yuga,

Question, How’s the battery life of this one? Can this last also up to 8 hours like the CULV acert notebooks? Or 3-4 hours lang because of the 3 cores?

Yuga,
Could you do some tests (compatibility especially!) with a better version of Linux? Linux Mint should do the trick. Thanks!

You could also install Mint in other laptops with no OS to test if this free solution works well enough as not to warrant buying Windows.

Hay Yuga, magkaroon ka naman ng konting variety. Ganyan na lang lagi ang title ng posts mo, tipong “Name_of_Gadget + in the flesh”.

Good specs. But how about battery life? Can this go at least 4 hours using the HD 4250? Doesn’t it get overly hot?

@abeolandres in case you are not aware, yugatech app always crashes. I presume this is an iOS4 issue.

Are these scores based out of 10 max? Uhh… The gaming score ain’t so bad but the numbers aren’t looking great? Would this laptop be able to play PS3 calibre games?

This looks like it is a very good buy. Performance is similar to the i5 version but at P7000 cheaper
