VIA Nano going to the desktop

Just like Intel, VIA is also aiming at the desktop (or more aptly called, nettops) with its Nano processors. VIA announces a mini-ITX board to power nettops and supports PCI Express 2.0.

The VIA VB8001 Mini-ITX board is 17×17 cm in dimension.

1.6GHz VIA Nano CPU
Supports up to 4GB 533/667MHz RAM (2x2GB)
VIA Chrome9 HC graphics
2 x SATA (3 Gbps) connectors
1 x 16-Lane PCIe slot
1 x 32 Bit Mini PCI slot
2 x USB ports
Gigabit LAN
5.1-channel audio

We might be seeing more nettops from Taiwanese OEMs with VIA Nano in them. Asus and MSI already has a couple out in the market. It’s just the price-point issue that’s making them not as attractive as the netbooks.
