Canon outs PowerShot G15 and SX50 HS

Along with the announcement of the S110 and EOS 6D, Canon announced two other PowerShot digital cameras two complete their Prosumer lineup. These cameras are G15 and SX50 HS.

The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS is set to succeed the PowerShot SX40 HS from last year and is said to pack the company’s new AF System that enhances the camera’s AF times and reduces lags. The newly announced camera has a slightly bigger screen (0.1-inch) which will be twice as dense as its predecessor.

However, the biggest improvement on this camera from the previous model lies on its lens which now has a 24 – 1200mm zoom range. Although the PowerShot SX50’s 50x power zoom lens is by far the longest we’ve seen on a digital camera, it does come with a price. The lens of this camera (f/3.4 – f/6.5) has a slightly higher aperture compared to the SX40’s (f/2.7 – f/8) but compensates with a higher ISO (6400).

The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS will have a $479.99 price tag when it retails starting this October.

The Canon PowerShot G15 may have taken some cues from its G-Series siblings in terms of physique, but this new camera is a totally different beast on the inside. This new camera sports a newly designed 1/1.7 CMOS sensor which is powered by Canon’s Digic5 image processor. The lens of this camera is also improved to 28 – 140mm at f/1.8 – 2.8 and is a tad better than the one found in G1X.

The Canon PowerShot G15 will retail for $499.99 and will hit store shelves at the same time as the S110 and SX50 HS.
