Canon Powershot S100 replaces the S95

It was bound to happen — Canon will eventually upgrade their popular S95 point-and-shoot camera with something better. That day has happened and the Canon Powershot S100 has been announced.

Canon Powershot S100 specs:
12.1MP CMOS sensor
1/1.7″ sensor size
Digic 5 processor
ISO 80 – 6400
24–120 mm focal length
5x optical zoom
4x digital zoom
3″ LCD display
f/2.0 – f/5.9 aperture
1/2,000 – 15s shutter speed
Built-in flash
2.3fps continuous shoot
1080p video recording at 24fps
SD/SDHC/SDXC
RAW + JPEG file format
HF-DC2 High-Power Flash (optional)
Built-in GPS

Pretty good upgrades to the Canon S95, IMO, although the sensor size is actually still the same with the Canon S100. The camera now comes in silver and black colors.

The Canon Powershot S100 is expected to ship by end of November with a suggested retail price of $429.99 (though I have this feeling it will be much more expensive in the Philippines — Php25k+).

How many actuations before the sensor is corrupted? Higher sensor sensitivity increases the risk. The first manufacturer that offers a benchmark guarantee, e.g 20 000 actuations within a 36 month perion, wins my loyalty.
