Nikon D4 makes official announcement

Nikon’s latest flagship dSLR is the Nikon D4. The 16MP camera replaces the popular yet expensive Nikon D3S and adds a couple of video recording/multimedia improvements and a really fast frame rate.

The Nikon D4 uses the new QXD memory card format which is closer to the SD card in size than the CF card. The D4 is also the first camera to be able to use this format which boasts of speeds north of 125MB/sec.

    Nikon D4 specifications:

  • 16.2 effective megapixel, full-frame sensor (16.6MP total)
  • 10fps shooting with AF and AE, 11fps with focus and exposure locked, 24fps 2.5MP grabs
  • 91,000 pixel sensor for metering, white balance, flash exposure, face detection and active d-lighting
  • ISO Range 100-12,800 (extendable from 50 – 204,800)
  • MultiCAM 3500FX Autofocus sensor works in lower light and with smaller apertures
  • Two sub-selector joystick/buttons for shooting orientation
  • 1080p 30fps HD video at up to 24Mbps with uncompressed video output
  • New EN-EL18 battery (21.6Wh capacity, CIPA-rated at 2600 shots)
  • Twin card slots (one for Compact Flash and one XQD

Of course, since QXD cards are still a bit rare and expensive, the D4 has another slot for the more common CF card.

The Nikon D4 will be available next month with a suggested retail price of $5,999.95 (body only) or an equivalent of about Php260,000. Not sure though when it will arrive here in the Philippines.

      Err… I don’t want to sound like an ass but there are no sample photos from both cameras to prove your point. ;)

      @Ben, may sample pictures na.

      @Larry: sources of extensive reviews please?

      uhmm, i think you need to read full reviews about Nikon D4.. I’m actually planning to buy Canon 1DX, but i decided to just wait for a bit more until Nikon releases new cameras.. and this is it..

      and i think you missed this part of the blog post:

      # 91,000 pixel sensor for metering, white balance, flash exposure, face detection and active d-lighting
      # ISO Range 100-12,800 (extendable from 50 – 204,800)
      # MultiCAM 3500FX Autofocus sensor works in lower light and with smaller apertures
      # Two sub-selector joystick/buttons for shooting orientation
      # 1080p 30fps HD video at up to 24Mbps with uncompressed video output
      # New EN-EL18 battery (21.6Wh capacity, CIPA-rated at 2600 shots)
      # Twin card slots (one for Compact Flash and one XQD

      advantage of the 1DX:
      -more MP (as in 1.8MP, doesnt have that much difference)
      -more FSP (around 4 FSP, doesnt have that much difference)
      -more AF points and cross type points (ok, i admit this is a big plus)

      @Fleeb,

      There are sample photos but not the type that really differentiate the two DSLRs. I’m referring to raw photos taken from the field. ;)

      @nikon_lover
      The D4 was just recently announced. Even Dpreview has no ‘previews’ as of this moment.

      @ben not “previews” but “reviews”.. eventhough the unit is not yet available, actual presentations will be held in las vegas on the 10th.. but the specs and all are already available even on the nikon site.. if what the specs are saying is true, then this is, “i think”, better than 1DX…

      of course, actual pictures are needed for “proof” of how good this camera can be, but saying that it is “not close to 1DX” is a bit, uhm, how do i say this, immature.. i maybe a nikon lover, having owned few of the old and latest models, but i do also own canon dslrs and know what they can do..

      and im also waiting for the “full” review, including sample pictures and videos, of this new camera.

      btw, i had typo errors on my previous comment, it should be FPS (frames per second) not FSP (frame second per? lol)

    true! sana di na magdistributor ang nikon. much better kung direct na nikon na ang nag handle ng marketing and after sales service. im sure it would be way better!

  6. Avatar for Drake Drake says:

    Im sure those who will say that the price quoted above is expensive, have no idea about Nikon or other brands’ cameras.

    Btw, i don’t think that D4 is the current flagship, D3X still reigns. Check the net for specs and pricing.

  8. Avatar for sandbox sandbox says:

    superb specs! but If nikon repair service center (CDSC) cannot give good service and support on lower models of camera, theres no point in getting a high end model here in the philippines like a D4 or any flagship model if you have no GOOD local support :)
