If there’s one thing I really wanted to take home from our Singapore trip with Sony last week, it would have to be this really cool digital recording binoculars (the Sony DEV5).
During our first day of visit, the folks from Sony brought us to one of their company-operated concept stores at the Wisma Atria along Orchard Road.

The Sony store had everything on display — from the SE smartphones to the cameras and the laptops, right up to the Smart LED TVs.
This one isle had most of their 3D devices on display along with the Sony DEV5. At first, it seems like a regular but oversized binoculars. Turns out it is completely digital and can actually records videos and stills.

There’s also the option to shoot in 3D as well. It has an optical zoom up to 10x and adds another 10x for digital zoom giving an effective zoom capability of 20x.
Notice the dual-lens construction up front which is used for the 3D capture (that means you get 2 CMOS sensors and 2 electronic eye-pieces as well). The DEV5 offers IS (image stabilization) and GPS tagging.

This is certainly one expensive toy and you can get one of these if you have $2,000 in spare change. Great for stalking people, huh?
