So Smart Comm. finally sent an announcement yesterday about their new branding and logo, confirming our earlier report during the concert of the Black Eyed Peas. We saw huge amount of comments from subscribers and readers alike so we wanted to see how this sentiments fares.
The press release they sent to the media yesterday was a bit vague and did not really explain the bubbles on the re-design.
During the Black Eyed Peas concert, Apl de Ap also sang the new song he composed for Smart. Here’s a short clip of that song.
Anyway, I talked to Alan Caeg (he’s the Product Manager for USAutoparts, Inc. and our SEMCON speaker for Design & User Experience) yesterday and he was disappointed with the re-design on so many levels (both on the logo design, imagery and brand equity).
So let’s put this to a poll and ask everyone what you think of the new logo — Is the new, bubbly Smart logo hot or not?

not. i think the font they used much alike from airbus’ new logo.
panget! hinde corporate ang dating, parang pang-children’s party with all the bright colored dots that resemble balloons and the fancy font used. haha

A logo is a trademark identity. Maybe Smart would want to be smarter in that idea.

i think the logo is ok, except that they shouldn’t have used light blue as their font color since Globe already uses dark blue.
the logo and the color is something I can associate with nokia (minus the bubble) cant still figure what it conveys, it skips me. not Smart enough!

Hi everyone. IMHO,
SMART’s new logo is great.
It is lively and vibrant.
The 8 dots I think is very SMART.
Remember the SMART’s hotline – *888.
I think MVP loves “8” and the two circles to form the number 8.
The very good question to ask is why those dots were arranged like that.
It looks like:
(1) forming an arrow – means moving forward.
(2) slowly, dots are getting closer (like atoms)
that means more are now connected/closer to each other
(3) four different colors signifying the different networks.
Smart – blue
Globe – light blue
PLDT or WiTribe or Bayan – red
Sun Cellular – yellow
(4) Yellow is the center of the four dots (Sun being the center?) while the Blue one is the closest dot. I think it’s related to the Digitel PLDT merger.
And now, all of them are closer due to lower rates.
For my observation above,
I think it’s an acceptable NEW SMART LOGO!
Extraordinary and staying away from the typical “serious” corporate logo.

If you are saying that light blue=Globe and red=Witribe, the arrow moving forward left globe and wi-tribe far behind smart and sun. hehehe.
