Poll: Which CPU are you running on?

Listen to article

The line-up of new CPUs between AMD and Intel are getting crowded especially with the newer generations that sports 4 to 6 core CPUs. Was wondering if people are upgrading as fast as the CPUs are being introduced.

Our new poll for this week seeks to find out — Which CPU are you running on? I’m limiting the choices to the ff. processors:

(If you have multiple PCs, pick the fastest CPU you own.)

  • Intel Core i7
  • Intel Core i5
  • Intel Core i3
  • Intel Core 2 Duo
  • Intel Core 2 Quad
  • Intel Pentium D
  • Intel Celeron
  • Intel Atom
  • AMD Athlon
  • AMD Phenom
  • AMD Athlon X2
  • AMD Athlon II
  • AMD Sempron
  • AMD Phenom II

I’ve added the poll on the sidebar so you can submit your votes there. You can leave a comment below too if you want to qualify your choice.

As for me, I haven’t jumped yet to the Core i7 I was planning months ago so I’m still on a Core 2 Quad Q6600 (which I seldom use lately to save on electricity).

Athlon X2 5000 on my desktop and Athlon Neo X2 on my netbook. I love AMD. It may not be as fast as its Intel counterpart, but it is very affordable. Also, I don’t need much of that speed with what I do. Actually, IMO, the difference is negligible.

Ugh, I’ve been reading that Intels I series run too hot, though normal. Scary.

Maybe I’d upgrade for a Phenom or something when I get that gaming itch again. Right now, I’m just fine with my setup :)

Intel Celeron M 1.5ghz on a gateway laptop & C2D 1.86ghz on an HP laptop.

My last CPU was an AMD Athlon XP 1900+XP clocked at 1.6ghz before the motherboard broke down.

@wacocoke,

haha, yeah.

My friends bought their processors at much higher prices than mine. But when I unlocked the two dies of the Phenom 2 procie, the CPU performance skyrocketed and my processor easily outdid theirs.

One thing to consider when buying AMD processors is that they consume far more power than their equivalent Intel processors. The only downside to Intel’s line of processors are the not-so-friendly prices, even for so-called “economy processors” like the i3 series.

Also, Intel boards are not as cheap as AMD boards. Similar chipset boards cost about 1,000 pesos more (on the marginal level).

But if it’s me you’d ask, any of the two processor brands will do, performance-wise, since 80% of your time would still be dedicated staring at the desktop. LOL

This is a major upgrade for me since 2005 because my P4 HT already broke down.

Phenom 2 555BE dual-core unlocked to quad core via my Gigabyte board.

Now that’s power for ya!

But I’m seriously considering buying an i5 750 in the near future, or better yet, a phenom x6 (though it pales in comparison with the i7)

Also, good news folks: Intel core i7 prices are expected to be sheared to 3/4 by August.

Next personal laptop will probably be a CULV. not so important anymore.
