ReviewMe & other cheques arrive via regular mail

Listen to article

This has been a growing concern for me in the past few months. The cheques are arriving via regular mail. The other day, I got 3 from different affiliate and ad programs.

ReviewMe

A have heard from a lot of people and their stories of lost cheques in the mail or repeated requests for re-issues that never came.

Although I have not personally experienced loosing any cheques on regular mail and I have this feeling that the Makati Post Office personnel are the most trusted bunch of local government employees, I don’t want to be too complacent about it.

One possible way to go around this is by requesting the issuer to send the checks via Registered Mail. Even TextLinkAds is a bit spotty on that department — sometimes they send it via registered mail, on other times via regular mail.

Or, maybe by next year, when every other Pinoy gets his own fully-functional Paypal account…

P.S.
As for ReviewMe, I suppose that will be the first and last cheque I’ll get from them. Just disclosing that I’m not into paid online reviews.

There are some concerns for us Filipino (Go Philippine Blogosphere!) Bloggers regarding remote cheque delivery. Some are lucky to have great and credible postal offices in their area, others are just, well nevermind.

That’s bad news. Ten years ago they don’t require you to deposit it in a dollar account.

You cannot simply encash those dollar cheques, as far as I know.. you need to deposit them into a dollar account.

Bad news, BDO maintaining balance is now $200.

I just got my Review Me and Text Link Ads cheques for November! They came in through registered mail.

Actually, it’s been like that since 1997 when I first got my international cheques from the first net companies. I don’t experience lost mails from the Makati Post Office, I agree, they may be the most trusted network in the Philippines – from the Central Post Office down to the Makati Post Office.

Even packages worth… U$200.00, I get them fine from Makati PO.

Most local banks think only big corps need foreign currency accounts. It’s high time they get with the times.

You can’t deposit to a friend’s account if the cheque is in your name.

But, many banks have a minimum $100 deposit. See the previous thread. I opened mine at BDO with $100 cash and a $100-something cheque.

@Joseph, Max: Am thinking if I can help you in some way about your checks. Sayang naman kung pang origami lang…

Question: How many other bloggers have trouble cashing their checks?

PS: According to my bro-in-law, may charge daw na $4 per deposit… $8 yata pag nag return…

@Max: I know the minimum is about $500.00… Still a lot for most though… What you can do is deposit it to a friend’s account.

I signed up for Review Me just for kicks. I didn’t review their website for the initial payout. I already received one request for review – hotelreservations.com but i decided not to pursue this scheme. I had experience with below $100 checks before and its a pain to encash them since i don’t have a dollar account. I have checks here for 45, 10, and 25 dollars from the Western Union affiliate program via Linksys. After failing to turn them into cash i decided to stop the ads and use the checks for origami. =)

Disintermediation. It’s a beautiful thing. :)

Got mine Dec 16. First check ever! I’m torn between framing it or putting it in the bank.

My next question about ReviewMe is when will they ask for reviews again. I have not receive any “tasks” for reviews. Did anybody get succeeding requests?

I hope Paypal goes live in the Philippines soon. I stopped sending cards to my family in the Philippines because after 5 cards getting lost in the mail, I don’t trust the post office there anymore. :(

I get that sinking feeling I won’t see my $30 ReviewMe cheque… it just had to be scheduled for the busy Christmas season!

I lost an Adsense cheque in December 2005, so I had it credited back. I then switched to secured delivery.

I’m still accepting ReviewMe requests to review – since my old blog is just for that! My new blog is totally ad-free.
