THE GUY who dreamt up the idea of adding ringtones to your car won the first annual D.O.C award here at CES, Las Vegas. There was some immediate dispute as to how original the idea was. But by CES 2007, Jack Conrad’s idea will have become a reality.
The objective with this invention is to provide a vehicle with a distinctive audible identification – just like a mobile phone’s ringtone. Indeed, there are plans to let users download voice files or MP3s so that they can truly personalize the device.
So when you forget exactly where you parked your car in a multi-storey car park, you stand some chance of finding it again.
The Design, Originality and Creativity (D.O.C.) award was sponsored by Digital Innovations and Conrad’s entry – called horn tunes – beat off hundreds of other entries to win a $10,000 prize.
Crucially, Conrad’s design will be turned into a shippable product which Digital Innovations expects to distribute through its 35,000 retail outlets worldwide.
Rick Mazursky, CEO with Digital Innovations, claimed there will be separate versions for different international markets. He also estimated it would cost around $20 and be totally self-installed.

Apple has apparently cancelled its plan of offering mobile ringtones via the iTunes music store.
“iRingTones”, as we’ll call it, integrated ringtone downloads into the iTunes Music Store, and would have allowed users to remix ringtones before beaming them to the phone via Bluetooth. It was to be a headline feature of iLife ’06, the annual upgrade to Apple’s digital media consumer suite that receives its annual refresh at the San Francisco show.
Apple has added audio books, podcasts and videos to the iTunes Music Store since it launched in 2003, and is expected to unveil satellite radio integration in the future. The cellular networks charge between $1 and $4 for a single ringtone and obviously don’t want to lose this huge revenue to Apple. Apparently ringtones are their No2 source for data revenue after SMS.

Mulawin the Movie.
The ever so popular Mulawin teleserye will now hit the movie theaters this Christmas. Everybody is excited to watch this movie which stars Richard Gutierrez (also of Sugo) and Angel Locsin (also stars as Darna in the TV series).

Mulawin is a fantasy television series (locally known as telefantasya) which aired in the Philippines through GMA Network from August, 2004 to March, 2005. A movie based on the series will be shown in the Philippines on December, 2005.
The success of the series prompted GMA network to make a spin-off — Encantadia.
The story revolves around the battle between two races of humanoid birds — the Mulawins and the Ravenas. The Ravenas, who were originally Mulawins, want revenge by conquering the world because humans have destroyed their habitat. With the help of the Diwatas, Musangs, Pericos and some humans, the Mulawins must stop the Ravenas from conquering the world. The messengers (sugo), Alwina and Aguiluz, must go to the Mulawin tree to end the conflict as the prophecy tells. Alwina, half human and half Mulawin, is romantically involved with Aguiluz and this become a hindrance to their mission.

Crazy Frog is the marketing title of a ring tone based on ‘The Annoying Thing‘, a computer animation created by Erik Wernquist. The animation was originally created to accompany a sound effect produced by Daniel Malmedahl while attempting to imitate the sound of a two-stroke moped engine. The Crazy Frog ring tone spawned a successful chart hit that went to number one spot in the UK Singles Chart.
As well as being noted as one of the first ring tone cross-over hits, the Crazy Frog ring tone has attracted controversy due to the depiction of the frog character in its advertising. Most complaints about the advertisements centered on the display of the frog’s genitalia. The ring tone is also notoriously irritating.

Been hearing a lot of this “Ang Panday” TV series and I wonder if their soundtrack is really cool as a ringtone. I believe a lot of people will be looking for the same and download the ringtone once the series hits the local televisions.
I used to watch Ang Panday before when it was still Fenando Poe Jr. who took the lead role. It’s one of the few pure Filipino legendary super heroes we have. The new TV series will be coming out real soon casting Jericho Rosales (click here for pictures) and Heart Evangelista (picture here).

“Dragostea din Tei” is the most successful single by the Moldovan band O-Zone. The single was first released in 2003 in Romania, where the group currently lives and produces, and in the spring of 2004 in most other European countries. It was one of 2004′s most successful summer hits, as well as one the best selling singles of the year, across Europe.
Although O-Zone’s version was the most popular across Europe, several other versions of the song have been made, most notably by the small Italian dance act Haiducii, who released the song in Europe at around about the same time. Both have accused the other of taking it without permission. “Dragostea Din Tei” has also become a popular song to parody, as proven to some popularity with Gary Brolsma’s “Numa Numa Dance” video.

Numa Numa is an Internet meme based on the Moldovan Romanian pop song “Dragostea Din Tei” by O-Zone. Specifically, it refers to a Flash-based video of 19-year-old American Gary Brolsma lip-synching the song energetically on his webcam.
The phrase “Numa Numa” comes from the words from a refrain of the song, “nu mă, nu mă iei,” meaning roughly “(you) won’t take, won’t take me.”
