Toysoft recently released a special ringtone software or utility for those not satisfied with merely simple audio tones on their incoming phone calls.

With Videotones, the owners of Palm OS Treo 600 and 650 Smartphones can easily assign AVI movies to their contacts.

The program also provides a basic functionality of a common ringtone manager, and comes bundled with a library of sample files. The full version of Videotones is offered for $14.95.

Sprint Brings Music Direct to Cellphones

The legal music downloading business has taken a big step forward in recent weeks, and I’m not referring to Apple Computer’s much-touted move to sell videos on its iTunes Music Store. I’m talking about something that got much less attention: the launch of the first legal music downloading service you can access right from a cellphone.

Some cellphones already are able to play songs copied from computers, or streamed from an online radio-type service. And cellphone carriers have long sold snippets of songs as ringtones, which can be downloaded onto phones. But the new Sprint Music Store, unveiled by Sprint Nextel a couple of weeks ago, is the first service that allows complete songs to be purchased and downloaded directly from a cellphone, without a computer.

They say the price is too high? It’s just about a quarter of a dollar here in the Philippines.

TS-AudioToMIDI performs automated recognition of polyphonic music, stored in mp3,WAVE,AIF,SND,AU formats as well as audio CD tracks. In real-time mode it instantly converts music coming through the microphone or line input of your computer into a MIDI sequence. Recognizing pre-recorded music allows converting digital sound to MIDI format. MIDI file takes hundreds times less space than any digital sound format, which allows you to use it as a melody for your web page or make a preview of your mp3 Internet music collection.

As MIDI file is, in fact, a layout of music, you can change its arrangement in contrast to digital sound. Instruments, number of voices or melody itself can be easily modified using any third-party score editor, which allows creating remixes, variations and printing musical notation. You may even put the melody in your mobile phone!

On-the-fly recognition is a process performed in real-time, without noticeable delay. Detected notes can be either recorded or played in real time, or both. Thus you can change instruments in real-time, for example, play the guitar and get piano sound.

TS-AudioToMIDI provides four different note detection algorithms. A number of filtering options allows to leave aside odd notes. Monophonic methods provide recognition of one (the loudest) voice in melody but with great accuracy. Polyphonic method transcribes several voices.

Looking for Ang Panday Ringtone

Been hearing a lot of this “Ang Panday” TV series and I wonder if their soundtrack is really cool as a ringtone. I believe a lot of people will be looking for the same and download the ringtone once the series hits the local televisions.

I used to watch Ang Panday before when it was still Fenando Poe Jr. who took the lead role. It’s one of the few pure Filipino legendary super heroes we have. The new TV series will be coming out real soon casting Jericho Rosales (click here for pictures) and Heart Evangelista (picture here).
