Harry Potter Book 7: The Deathly Hallows is now out in bookstores worldwide!

Recording artists from Warner Music Group can now be downloaded as ringtones to Skype users in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Poland and within weeks to the rest of Skype’s more than 94.6 million registered users worldwide, the company said. Customers will be able to download the songs from the “Personalise Skype” section of the company’s online store.

Personalise Skype now features ringtones such as “Push” and “Sorry” the new single from Madonna’s album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, as well as past hits “Like A Virgin,” and “Vogue”. Planned future featured artists include Green Day and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Skype said.

In 1997, your cell phone could make two kinds of sounds. It could “ring”—our anachronistic word for the electronic trill that phones produce when you receive a call—or it could play a single-line melody, like “Für Elise.” If you’ve ever heard a cell phone bleep out Beethoven without the harmony, you’ll understand that this wasn’t much of a choice. At about this time, Nokia, the Finnish cell-phone company, introduced “smart messaging,” a protocol that allowed people to send text messages to one another over their phones, and Vesa-Matti Paananen, a Finnish computer programmer, realized that it would work equally well for transmitting bits of songs. Paananen developed software called Harmonium that enabled people to program their cell phones to make musically complex sequences—melodies with rudimentary harmonic and rhythmic accompaniment—that they could forward to friends using smart messaging.

Napster has teamed up with Dwango Wireless to offer various ring tones, “shout outs”, graphics and other types of multi-media. According to Napster’s press release, the ring tone service will cost around $1.99 to $2.99 per download, and should be compatible with “a variety of phones.”

Six minutes 39 seconds into the Richard Thompson song “Calvary Cross,” Mike Pelusi, a music reviewer in Philadelphia, will almost invariably check his cellphone.

Minka Wiltz, an actress in Atlanta, has tried to answer her phone to the thrrrrup, thrrrrup, thrrrrup of a truck bouncing down a pothole-pocked street.

Others say they thought they heard phones ring while taking a shower, using a blow-dryer or watching commercials.

What they are hearing is a barely discernible sound – perhaps chimes, a faint trill or an electronic bleat – that they mistake for the ring tone of their cellphone, which isn’t ringing.

This audio illusion – called phantom phone rings or, more whimsically, ringxiety or fauxcellarm – has emerged recently as an Internet discussion topic and has become a new reason for people to either bemoan the techno-saturation of modern life or question their sanity.

Ryan Agoncillo, boyfriend or erstwhile actress Judy Anne Santos, will be one of the two hosts in the upcoming Pihilippine Idol (Pinoy Idol) show which will start on June 3 this year.

The other host, probably female, has not yet been selected or announced yet. Looks like the Philippine Idol will be getting two hosts instead of the usual one (like Ryan Seacrest of American Idol).

On the other hand, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab is the only one confirmed as judge of the singing competition. The other two have not be divulged yet.
