Blackberry acquisition by Lenovo imminent, reports say

Rumors about Lenovo’s plan to acquire Blackberry have been going on since last year. Once again, that topic has been brought up as Benzinga received a tip from an informant who claims that the Chinese multi-national company is willing to take a shot at the Canadian phone-maker by offering to buy shares for $15 within the week.

This recent speculation comes 10 months after Lenovo announced that it’s acquiring Motorola Mobility from Google which, up until now, still has not been formally closed.

If the Blackberry deal materializes, it will be the latest addition to Lenovo’s expanding businesses which include the recent acquisition of IBM’s x86 Server Business which closed earlier this month.

As expected, spokespersons from both companies aren’t exactly willing to give out any information about the matter. That being said, nothing is certain as of the time of writing.

    di ko magets bakit nila kailangan i-acquire ang Blackberry when they have Motorola?

    I don’t know if its the patents, technology whatsoever but can’t they develop something same like it within Motorola Mobility?

      Obviously for the Patents and Technologies that are missing from Motorola. Some of BlackBerry noteworthy Assets:
      * Cash of 3 Billion plus & No Debts
      * QNX Sofware Division (Where BB10 O/S came from) deployed in Auto Industry, Military, Health, Aero Space, etc.
      * Mobile Device Management Software- Serves Corporate and Gov’t. Agencies.
      * Mobile Device Mfg.
      * Owned Paratek Antenna Technology

      After re-organization,BlackBerry bought 2 Companies this year;
      * ‘Secusmart’,which owned Anti Spyware Technology.
      * and ‘Movirtu’, owner of the Virtual Sim Technology.
      I don’t work for BlackBerry but I know a little bit about them because I like reading Tech. News.
      The take over news is just a rumor- maybe an attempt to manipulate the stock price or to frighten BlackBerry’s enterprise clients of possible Chinese ownership.

    Couldn’t blame Lenovo for wanting to get its hands on the most secured mobile OS in the market.
    IMHO, any attempt by Lenovo will be blocked by the Canadian Gov’t for political and national/security interests.
    Canadian and US militaries and governments rely on BlackBerry for secured communications. Also Canada may not want to take the risk of polical backlash if it allowed the sales of BlackBerry to China.

      Exactly. Canadian gov’t already blocked 1st attempt, can’t see why outcome will change this time. Also if I’m not mistaken, Chen said they’ve taken down the “for sale” sign (unless probably pitted against a ridiculous amount of $$$). Unlikely to happen.
