If you didn't like the construction of the Samsung Series 9 laptop, I'm sure you'll probably drool over the recently announced Samsung Series 7, with its sleek aluminum body. Price starts at $999 (probably be Php49,999 when it hits the Philippines), the Series 7 laptop comes with an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. That chrome finish on the lid and brushed-metal finish on the palm rests, all made with aluminum, gives the Series 7 laptop a really cool and sexy look. Too bad they are only available in 14-inch and 15.6-inch form factor (which is a bit too big…

What’s your first laptop?

Relevance: 72%      Posted on: May 14, 2010

Just bought a new laptop this week while roaming around VirraMall and also saw a number of really old ones being put on display. It reminded me of my very first laptop and it looked similar to the ones I saw. I can't remember the exact model of that laptop but I remember it was a 12-incher Acer notebook powered by a Cyrix 486DX4 processor with 230MB of HDD space and 8MB of EDO RAM (I later upgraded it to 16MB for Php4k+). It was running on Windows 95 which I installed using 6 or 7 1.44" floppy disks. I…

Was at Shangri-la, Ortigas with JAngelo and Marc this afternoon on an interview. After that, J helped me looked for a good laptop bag (or sleeve) and found several at Rustans and Jansport. The one I got was a neat Jansport Laptop Shockshield Sleeve: The laptop sleeve is made of high-density foam and neoprene, quilted and weighs 410 gms, with velcro closure -- just wide enough to fit a 12-inch laptop. Fits perfectly well inside my mailman bag. Damage: Php2,290

Samsung X360: Lighter than Air? Almost.

Relevance: 70%      Posted on: August 29, 2008

Samsung new ultralight laptop took a cue from the Voodoo Envy 133. Obviously, this is an attempt to unseat the MacBook Air in the ultrathin department. With a 13.3" display, the Samsung X360 is only 1.27kg (2.8lbs) light and as thin as 0.66". For storage, you'll have a choice between a 64GB and 128GB SSD or a regular 120GB HDD. It will run on one of those Centrino 2 ULV processor (1.2GHz and up), with RAM capacities of up to 4GB. There's WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth, 1.3MP webcam, fingerprint reader, a 7-in-1 card reader and HDMI/VGA output. Most impressive is the…

OLPC 2.0: 2nd Generation XO Laptop Unveiled

Relevance: 70%      Posted on: May 21, 2008

The One Laptop Per Child Foundation just unveiled the next generation of XO Laptops and looks like it's an interesting upgrade to the previous one. OLPC founder Nicholas Negrponte reveals the new design of the OLPC in a press conference. The XO-2 laptop will come in dual touch-screens and pegged at $75, a far more cheaper price than the $188 a piece the original original one turned out to be. Will this next version gather more steam? I think they should have focused more on the price rather than the design. Who knows what will the kids use them for?

Look at this ECS G320 laptop. Got this from PC Buyers guide last week. Could this be the cheapest locally distributed laptop ever? Runs on a VIA C3 (Nehemiah) 1GHz, 128MB DDR SODIMM, 14.1" XGA TFT LCD, built-in graphics with up to 64MB shared memory, 40GB HDD, built-in speakers, modem and LAN, 4 USB 2.0, 1 VGA out, 4-cell Li-Ion pack battery. SRP: Php29,995 Looks affordable enough, except you'd wish it comes with 256 MB ram and WiFi enabled. I wonder how the VIA C3 1GHz performs? Stylish Laptop Bag from TechTote

Relevance: 67%      Posted on: February 25, 2009

Received this laptop/netbook bag from TechTote this morning and unlike the previous laptop bags we got (and gave away to readers), this one was designed specifically for the ladies. I'm not one who's great at checking out what's fashionable or not but according to a lady friend who saw it the during unboxing says it cool. Well, I agree that this one has a very eye-catching color (they've got more brightly-colored models available). TechTote calls the color Grape Fizz so that's purple to most of us (I'm a bit color blind). There are two compartments inside (prolly to separate the…
