A recent report from IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker places Samsung as the number 2 mobile phone manufacturer in Q2 of 2007. There are a total of about 272.7 million units worldwide for the said quarter with Samsung shipping 37.4 million units, beating Motorola which slipped down number 3 at 35.5 million. A lot of people (including me) are claiming that the next wave will be on the mobile phone. With faster wireless connectivity and high adoption rate, the mobile web may become the next top destination for everybody. It is even starting now without many of us noticing it. Is Web 2.0 on your mobile phone? Apparently yes. How much of it is on our phone now depends on our needs and lifestyles. Let me share mine: Gmail for Mobile. I consolidate most of my email accounts to GMail {see tutorial here} so Gmail Mobile is the most often used application…

Results: Mobile Phone Survey

Relevance: 89%      Posted on: April 17, 2008

As reflected in the global market, Nokia dominates the pack in our recent survey on mobile phones. The results of the poll were really interesting although it was pretty obvious from the start who would win. There were a total of about 179 people who sent in 199 votes in their poll answers. I realized people now are actually using more than one mobile phone -- 11% of the respondents indicated they use at least 2 phones at the same time. Here's the breakdown of the poll results: Nokia - 44.7% Sony Ericsson - 26.1% Motorola - 9.0% Samsung -…

Relevance: 87%      Posted on: March 4, 2013

News spread fast a couple of days ago that the much-awaited Nokia Lumia 920 had been released in the Philippines with a suggested retail price of Php26,990. This, after several months of being delayed (as far back as December). However, a quick survey from all the Nokia Stores that are selling the handset resulted in shortage of stocks so we asked from some sources that revealed a very low supply of the Lumia 920. Apparently, one of the two biggest importers/distributors of Nokia phones in the Philippines only shipped 15 units. We're assuming the other distributor might have shipped the…

There were dozens and dozens of mobile phones showed to us yesterday but these models caught my attention the most -- the 1GHz LG eXpo GW820 with optional Mobile Projector and the LG Watch Phone GD910. The LG eXpo was announced last December 2009 and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor. LG eXpo GW820 3.2" display @ 480x800 pixels SnapDragon 1GHz processor 5MP camera up to 16GB via microSD WinMo 6.5 Pro It runs Windows 6.5 Professional although it's not sure if it can be easily upgraded to Windows Phone 7 when it becomes available. The…

Globe iPhone 4S Promo Page shows 100 units only?

Relevance: 84%      Posted on: November 29, 2011

The pre-order page on Globe's website may have been taken down but the promo page is still up and indicates only "100 units" are allocated for pre-order. Since we know it's not official out yet, that 100 units on the counter looks like a placeholder number for now. But even if that were the case, the design gives us an impression that the reservations will be for just 999 units or lower. Just look at that page below. We're still anticipating the launch of the iPhone 4S within December and if this is any indication, I think Globe is just…

Web 3.0 with start on your Mobile Phone

Relevance: 83%      Posted on: October 6, 2007

There have been tons of suggestions for defining Web 3.0 (yes, another hype word) but if ever that era on the WWW will come, I sure believe it will start with our cellphones. Sugar Attack hits the nail on the head here: Everyone has an opinion on Web 3.0 lately. Personally, I think they are all wrong. And while I won’t profess to carry the official definition of Web 3.0 (personally, i think the definitions are stupid and misguided) I’ll tell you what I think the future of the web holds. Web 3.0 will be a mobile web revolution. It…
