The 2012 Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display is an Ultrabook

Relevance: 89%      Posted on: June 12, 2012

One of the more surprising announcement in the recently concluded Apple WWDC 2012 is the new 15.4-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display. With a resolution that's 4 times that of the previous Macbook Pro, the ones with Retina Display basically has the highest resolution in any laptop. The "Retina Display" label originally came from the iPhone which has more than 300ppi pixel density. Technically, the new Macbook Pro only has 220ppi so it doesn't really qualify. Apple just uses it here for marketing. 15-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display specs: 15.4" IPS LCD @ 2880x1800 pixels, 220ppi 2.3GHz or 2.6GHz…

11.6″ Macbook Air 2012 vs. Asus Zenbook Prime UX21A

Relevance: 85%      Posted on: June 13, 2012

Back in November 2011, we did a comparison between the Asus Zenbook UX21 and the 2011 Macbook Air 11.6". This quarter, with the introduction of the 2012 Macbook Air 11.6" and the Asus Zenbook Prime UX21A, we're again faced with the question on which ultrabook to get. As a backgrounder, I already own and use both the Zenbook UX21 and the 2011 Macbook Air 11.6". This year, I am planning to upgrade either one of them, or both of them (probably just one). Compared to the Zenbook UX21, the UX21A got some physical improvements on top of the hardware upgrades.…

A Macbook Pro is more expensive than MB Pro w/ Retina

Relevance: 75%      Posted on: June 24, 2012

About four (4) years ago, I wrote about "Why Apple Mac are still way more expensive" and a lot of Mac owners agreed that upgrading their Macs right in the store is exponentially more costly. It seems like the same observation is still true until today. Take for example the Macbook Pro and the Macbook Pro with Retina Display. You're presented with a 15-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display. The base configuration is 2.3GHz Core i7, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD which will cost you Php107,990. A little expensive, right? And, some would say the Retina Display might…

So this was the surprise promo that Globe reps told me the day they talked to us about the MyFi and they really did good with their promise. Along with the new 12-inch MacBook, Apple Store PH now carries the refreshed MacBook Airs and the new MacBook Pro with a Force Touch trackpad. The MacBook Air models have upgraded internals, if you would notice that they now carry 5th Gen Intel Core i5 CPUs. The MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display however now comes with Apple's new Force Touch trackpad which senses pressure and no longer clicks physically (aside from the internal spec bump). The new MacBooks retain their prices from the previous models (base configuration price): 11-inch MacBook Air - Php44,990 13-inch MacBook Air - Php49,990 13-inch…

Intel Dual Core price drop

Relevance: 67%      Posted on: July 28, 2006

A story from PCMag reports that Intel Dual Core processor prices have been slashed by as much as 40-60%. So I checked the local stores to see if they indeed change their list price to reflect the same. While Villman still lists the Intel Pentium D Processor 820 (Dual Core, 2.80 GHz, 800MHz) at Php 10,499, the ones at PC Express is already down to just Php 6,900 only. The Pentium D 805 (Dual Core; 2.66 GHz, 533MHz) but on PCX it's only Php 5,750. I'm sure Villman will follow suit and update their prices. Even the AMD Socket 939…
