Relevance: 100%      Posted on: August 28, 2007

Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer Inc. announced yesterday that it's acquiring US-based Gateway Computers. Once the acquisition is complete, it will put Acer as the no. 3 PC-maker worldwide. The Gateway sale is pegged at $710 million, or $1.90 per share will help make the Taiwanese company a bigger player in the worldwide market, next only to Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP). It will overtake Lenovo for that 3rd spot. The combination will create a multi-branded PC-company with over US$15 billion in revenues and shipments in excess of 20 million PC units per year. The acquisition is expected to close by December…

The forgotten Gateway LT1001i Netbook

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: April 7, 2009

The Gateway LT1001i netbook has been out in store shelves for months now but has never been given a formal introduction. It's probably because this 9" netbook is a late entrant and has been overshadowed by Acer who now also happens to own the brand. Besides, at its current price point, it won't be a threat to the rest of the players currently sold in the local market. It even followed that embedded 512MB RAM on board like the older Acer Aspire One. Gateway LT1001i Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz 8.9″ WSVGA screen 1GB DDR2 (512MB on-board + 1x512MB module) 160GB…

Gateway dropped the AMD Athlon CPU for an Intel SU3500 on their 11.6 inch mini-notebook. The Gateway EC1801i SU3500 MiniNote has almost the same look as the Gateway LT3102i Ultra Slim Laptop. eMachines Acer EMD250 NetBook

Aside from Gateway, Acer also owns the eMachines brand for low-end market and they've re-packaged the Acer Aspire One D250 into the eMachines Acer EMD250 NetBook. The netbook specs are somewhat standard and does not offer anything new or interesting. Perhaps Acer decided to re-paint the D250 with another of its brand just to have an offering for that line (same thing they always do with their Gateway brand). eMachines EMD250 NetBook 10.1" display screen @ 1024x600 pxiels Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6GHz 1GB DDR2 RAM 160GB HDD 1.3MP webcam WiFi 802.11 b/g Card Reader 3-cell battery (5200 mAh, 2.5…
