PLDT upgrades myDSL Plan 3000 to 5Mbps

Good news to all PLDT myDSL subscribers on Plan 3000 — bandwidth upgrades have been rolling to all subs as early as first week of this month. The plan was bumped up from 3Mbps to 5Mbps.

Sapido Mobile Router as 3G/4G Hotspot

Bought a Sapido 3G Mobile router last year as a possible replacement for my SmartBro Share-It. So I’m just waiting for my 24-month contract to expire so I could completely move up to this set-up in the car. But then, the local distributor met up with me early this week and showed me their whole new Sapido line-up.

So there you go — another ISP offering capped plans on a faster pipe. I’m sure a lot of you have seen those big billboard ads while plying the roads of Metro Manila. BayanTel has a special package of 3Mbps BayanDSL for only Php899 a month.

Speedtest: Location-based bandwidth meter

This is not just any other bandwidth meter around. It tracks your location, including your ISP and upstream provider. You choose which server to connect when measuring your bandwidth. Here’s my results for my PLDT myDSL 1995.

It’s supposed to be rated at 1.2Mbps. The connecting server I used was Bayantel. The system also saves a whole bunch of data from other users so you can dig them up, get the average for your area and even compare the performances of other ISPs. This one screen shot report I got the the Metro Manila area:

Text Your Bandwidth

Interestingly, Destiny is topping the charts with average speeds in excess of 1.6Mbps. That’s almost twice that of the runner up, PLDT.

Should be really useful when people move houses or something. They’d be able to get the average performance of an internet provider in that location.
