Relevance: 100%      Posted on: November 2, 2006

So, ok, sometimes when I'm too harassed I forget which card I paid online so it has happened on several occasion that I double pay (there was one time I paid Citibank 20k for a Php600 bill) some cards and not pay another card. But this one is a little strange to me -- I got a replacement card for an old Metrobank Value credit card. Then a week later, I also got another…

During Smart's sale event last week-end, the company tested a new mobile credit card reader. This allows merchants to allow credit card payments via a smartphone. The smartphone (the photo shows an Android handset from HTC) serves as a modem for the card reader. The system makes it more affordable for merchants to charge customers using MasterCard. The solution looks like it's still in testing phase so we're not sure when it will become available for merchants to use.

This was sent in by BPI Express Online to all their customers today. Apparently, there were some problems with Banco de Oro credit card terminals that erroneously reported charges in dollars instead of pesos. So don't be shocked if you see a $5,000 charge in your bill instead of Php5,000. Here's the complete explanation sent in via email: This is to inform you that your peso transactions that were swiped on BDO credit card terminals from August 16 to 18, 2008 were erroneously transmitted by BDO to our office in US dollar currency. In addition to the shift to EMV-based ATM cards, Smart e-Money has just announced LockByMobile that aims to protect ATM and credit card holders from being tricked into paying bills they shouldn't pay. LockByMobile is a new mobile service that lets users block and unblock the use of funds in their cards just from the convenience of their mobile devices. For example, one can block ATM withdrawals, over-the-counter or point-of-sale purchase, or online transactions to prevent other people from using their card without the owner's knowledge. The whole idea is so that you only unblock it only if you're going…

Relevance: 82%      Posted on: February 17, 2008

This was a question I've been very curious to know ever since Paypal allowed direct withdrawals to local banks and via credit card. This week-end, my CC bills arrived so I'm able to compute the going exchange rates for both withdrawal methods. I made two 500-dollar withdrawals direct to my HSBC credit card on January 24 and February 12, 2008. The bank exchange rates for those dates are Php41.16 and Php40.77, respectively. The exchange rate that appeared on my CC bill were Php40.42 and Php39.88, respectively. That's an average of Php0.815 difference for the two transactions. Note: When withdrawing Paypal…
