For the longest time, The has been regarded by everyone as the number 1 Philippine website, previously boasting some 44 million pageviews a month (recent figures pegs it at 28M). Relevance: 88%      Posted on: February 8, 2013

Early this morning, thousands of sites that use some form of Facebook integration were being redirected to an error page on Facebook, driving all traffic away from their original site destination. The incident happened around 9AM this morning when pages from sites and blogs are redirected to Facebook's error page. This also affected our blog and we caught the glitch this morning. Since we did not know what was causing the redirection, we thought it was caused by a recent plugin that we installed from yesterday. This is the reason you are seeing Fb pages instead off this blog this…

PHP or RoR for Web 2.0 Sites?

Relevance: 83%      Posted on: May 2, 2006

It seems that in the thick of all these Web 2.0 sites, RoR has become one of the popular language/platforms that's being used and demand for Ruby on Rails hosting is growing (or so I thought). In any case, I am looking at it on the (shared) hosting perspective and weighing in on the economics in providing such services. First, is RoR the best language/platform to use? What about PHP, Cold Fusion or ASP.NET? Most of the really huge Web 2.0 sites I know of are running PHP --, Friendster. And while there a tons of Web 2.0 sites

Porn Sites: Forgot to renew your domain, eh?

Relevance: 80%      Posted on: October 30, 2006

There's this little known underground economy for domaineers that's very, very lucrative. In one of our discussions the other night at the SEO Philippines party, there's this one guy from down south who snatched up the .COM of a tri-media popular .COM.PH website -- within months, he was allegedly earning USD$6,000 per month from Adsense for domains. Lucky guy (if my guess was right, he used to link/comment to this blog). Ok, going back to the topic of porn sites snatching up expired domains. A classic example of which is my friends popular blog awards site -- the Philippine Blog…

Google AdSense not good for Advocacy Sites?

Relevance: 71%      Posted on: May 15, 2008

Here's an interesting story from The Register, something I didn't know before -- put simply, if you're running an advocacy website against any individual, group, or organization, it could get your AdSense account canceled. In the exclusive story by The Register: Exclusive: Google has murdered the AdSense account run by one of the web's most influential anti-Scientology sites. Yesterday, the search giant cut off all ads served to Enturbulation, a fledgling site dedicated to promoting activism against the Church of Scientology and all its related organizations. This could have something do with the nature of the ads Google was serving.…
