Apple, Samsung plan to put an end to SIM cards

Usually seen as rivals in the market, Apple and Samsung are reported to be in "advanced talks" to discontinue the usual plastic SIM cards that we're using today, and introduce something they call e-SIM cards. Financial Times reports that this is so that switching between networks or carriers will be easier for the end users. There will also be announcement on the new embeddable SIM standards in the near future according to GSMA, an industry association that represents mobile operators.
